replacing blank switches for USB charger port

Hi Everyone,

I would like to replace one of the blank switches on the left of the steering wheel with a USB charger. For long distance drives we use Waze on the phone to reroute due to traffic...the wife is left handed and likes her phone mounted to the left of the wheel. It's a long reach from the center 12v port to that location and there are all of those blank switches there waiting to be used. Anyone know of a part designed to replace those blank switches with a USB charger? I found one on Ebay but it also includes a second USB port interface for the audio system. Our 2008 does not, to the best of my knowledge, have a USB interface so that is wasted tech for us.

Thoughts? Recommendations? Links or pics to other projects?

You could probably just buy any 12v socket, use a drill to make a hole big enough to fit it in and wire it to the 12V.

Use the OBD port to charge the phone with one of these adapters:

I realize the thread is a little old, but I just ran across this today and the first thing I thought of was "Hmmm, I wonder if this would pop into one of the switch blank slots".
