timing belt questions

If you search, you will find many write ups on belt replacement. You don't just replace the spring.

I have to because I pulled my valve cover and the spring was just laying in there

I'm not sure if you can reach it without pulling off the motor mount, front cover, and timing belt.

There is a diagram somewhere in the manual at the below location that will show you how the spring attaches, and you can determine if it is possible to put a new one in without removing that stuff. If I recall it attaches behind the tensioner so my guess is you can't do it.

Have you done your scheduled timing belt service?

You can replace the tensioner spring very easily. Both timing covers have to be pulled and you just hook it back on with some needle nose pliers or a string. Your timing may have jumped when it came off though, so after you get it back on, verify that the motor is still in time.
