I wanted to see if my 2011 2 could use the OEM USB port . I found the part number and it seems like it would just be a matter of removing the line in plug and replacing it with the dual USB line in one. Question is are there any other differences cable , software ? If you have a 2013 model would you mind snapping a picture of the harness plug?

I can practically guarantee you that you'll need more than just the socket for the center console; the wiring harness is likely different, and the headunit will need to be replaced as well. I've been researching off and on about doing a swap like this for our 2011, as I'm totally spoiled by it in our 2013.

The plugs are different, there is a separate wire going to the head unit for the USB port. That also means there is a separate socket to accept the cable on the headunit that I'm not sure is even available on the earlier model headunits.

So at minimum you'd need:
* Port
* Wiring harness
* Possible 13+ Headunit

If anyone has a 11/12 headunit from their car a picture of the back would be greatly appreciated. I can take one of the 13+ later today for comparison.

Unfortunately it doesn't tell us if the radio has the capability of even connecting the third plug like the 13+ MY.
For reference here is the '13 wiring connectors for the radio.

Thanks everybody , no easy plug and play solution this time .

Hi, I'am interesting to install OEM AUX/USB port in may Mazda also, any update in this matter. thank you and appreciated.

I would very much like to have a USB port in my 2011 Mazda 2 for my music, and be able to control it from the steering wheel controls.

Can anyone provide details on how to install a 2013+ head unit to enable this functionality?

It seems to me that if you swapped out the 2013 head unit and ran a new harness/plug it should be a direct swap into the 2011?

Steve

Well, I just picked up a 2013 OEM radio for $40. I'm now going to acquire the receptacle and see if I can replace my 2011 OEM setup with the 2013 OEM setup. Hopefully the steering column buttons/harness are unchanged. It will be nice to have a thumb drive with all my music in it and control it from the steering wheel instead of farting around with an ipod plugged into the aux jack.

Can someone tell me the wire colors that are "indicated by numbers" on the 0920-209 Auxiliary Jack / USB Port?

I'm going to try to get the receptacle WITH the end of the wire harness from a junkyard. Mazda wants $44 for the receptacle. As expected, the cable is part of the full harness, so I will have to make my own cable to go from the receptacle to the back of the radio. The radio came with all the receptacles cut free from the harness so I can see the colors as they go into the radio.

Here is the wiring harness on the back of the 2013 HU:

I have not yet pulled my 2011 HU.

But I'm going to have to figure out which wires to from the 2011 harness go to where on this radio.

I can't even figure out which connector is 0920-209 on the 2013 HU. It appears to be a 9-pin receptacle, but I don't see a 9-pin receptacle on the back of the 2013 HU.

Can anyone see which plug on the back of my HU is 0920-209?

Steve
