Car wont start. Ideas please

I went to leave for work this morning and my battery was dead. Just got home and put the new one in and I have power to the headlights and the gauge cluster and nothing else. If any one has any ideas that would be awesome. Its our only car and I kinda need to go to work.

do you have an aftermarket alarm system? im not alarm savvy but I know some aftermarket systems will need to be reset after unplugging the battery.

You have to lock and unlock the doors with the FOB after re connecting the battery. If that doesn't work, try resetting the alarm by holding the black button which is on a metal tab under the steering column (do a search for pictures).

If that doesn't work, then I would inspect your battery cable and starter connections. My starter wire became corroded, and I had the same symptoms.

I still have the factory alarm. Now this may be a stupid question but should my battery terminals be closer to the outside of the car or closer to the inside of the engine bay?

Towards the passenger side. Just google image search "protege5 engine" if necessary.
