It is not a simple task to pull the trans, split the case, replace and reassemble the gearset. It isn't that difficult if you have a shop, a lift and an experienced tech but it isn't something I would want to do at home unless I had the tools and time to do it. I would use OEM parts from Mazda and rebuild the existing trans over replacing it with a used trans, no telling the condition or how long 3rd will last in the new/used transaxle.
