02 Turbo Midnight Blue Protege 5
Hey guys, I use to own an 05 ralliart which had a great support community and a jetta tdi. I bought the protege5 about two weeks ago for $2000. Had all of the major maintenance done and has 108k on the motor. Paint was pretty bad but interior is actually in great shape. So I had some light body work done and then painted the entire car. Here is some pics

Thanks! and yeah I was going to go another color when I was getting it painted, but I loved the midnight blue. that I couldn't do it.

@JDM_Pro5, I will definitely ask you about helping with the projector retrofit, but thats once I'm done with the turbo kit.

Ok, I'll have pics up of the car with the turbo kit soon, I just need too finish up a couple things today. I hope to have it started this afternoon. Next on my list though is a new clutch next month, then exhaust and then I'll go from there. I should be rebuilding the motor in the summer or the end of this year after my deployment.

I'm in the process of turboing too. I have the hiboost fmic and oem msp turbo stuff. Let me know when you're ready for projectors...it's super easy

Oh sweet on you turboing your P5! Yeah I've been researching how to turbo cars, for like 10 years, lmao. Never had the nerve to actually do it, and its a lot easier (in my mind) to do now that I've been installing this turbo kit. The main thing is taking your time, and also making sure you have a way to tune it. I think that was my biggest concern, when going turbo, making sure its reliable. I need to eventually get a custom pipe from the throttle body so I can do the maf relocation. For now I'll run the bov recirculating.

Ok today, I finally started up the car and its running great, a little hiccup with the idle hear and there but nothing dramatic. I believe its the ecu learning right now. If not I might have to recirculate the bov or relocate the MAF (its located before the turbo on the intake). I would love to relocate the MAF but I really don't believe I have room on the hiboost cold pipe with bov. I know I've read 8" or more before the MAF is recommened and I definitely wouldn't meet that.

I'm running on an MSP flashed ecu from spicyorange.

Only problem right now is getting my oil pressure gauge and boost gauge to light up but. On a positive note my vacuum on the boost gauge is sitting at -21 Hg and it should sit anywhere from -19 to -22. So woot woot! for no vacuum leaks. lol

I haven't driven it long though, maybe 5-10mins at most. I let it idle for 15mins before driving and then for 10mins after my short drive. I didn't go into boost yet because I want to give the ecu sometime to learn and also idle. I made sure to watch for slow leaks and so far so good! It might be due to the fact that I looked over every clamp, hose, intercooler pipe, like 10 times. lol

Moving on, I didn't get any pictures of the install because it was only me and plus I sold my smartphone to get some parts for the install. Hopefully I can get some pictures soon, but overall the install was pretty easy. I just had to plan everything. I had an excel sheet of parts, prices, what has been done, what needed to be done, and marked off as I installed items. Leaving notes on what I didn't feel comfortable about, and made sure to look into it more.

Here is my parts list of the major parts with exact price, shipped and parts that ended up not fitting due to me ordering the wrong part.

Total: $1200 to turbo my P5
This total also includes like that small stuff like clamps, rubber hoses, brass tees, and smaller parts I didn't list.

Next up is a stage 2 clutch, exhaust and buying a secondhand block to rebuild it for more boost.

Hey if any mods can move this to the protege5 photos, builds and videos then that would be great! Thanks!

Thanks bikingpro5.

I have my coilovers, valve cover, 505 gauge rings, 505 diversion panel, rear sway bar and rims coming in all next week hopefully! Also my 2nd kid might be born by then too! woo hoo! lol Car is running great since I boosted it back in Jan.

Sounds like it should be eventful week! And congrats on the 2nd kid!

VC should get to you tomorrow ;)

Circuit, nope its already out for delivery today lol so yay!

Thanks Pimpcoven and lownslowp5 I'm running 7psi.

And the motor is stock ... seems reliable? Keep up the good work!

Yup its completely stock. I've seen plenty of protege5s run 6-7psi daily for thousands of miles. I don't plan on turning up the boost unless I make the necessary modifications to the motor. I might build the motor after completing the "looks" part of my car. Thanks! and I'm love with the color of your car man! I'm thinking of repainting my car again, just not sure of what color yet.

And here it is! Finally finished everything today, I might tweak a few things. I feel like its missing something, maybe a front lip? I'm also going to remove the roof rack once I can find the filler caps for a good price. I also need to do the headlights (or grab some black housing headlights), plastidip the rear valence and switch that ugly stock antenna lol. Oh I need tint too. Maybe do different color lugnuts?

Coilovers are Yellowspeed, running a progress rear swaybar with energy suspension universal adjustable endlinks in the front and rear. Rims are 17x8.5 +48 with 8mm spacers on the front and 5mm on the rear w/ 215/45 Nexen CP672 tires. Rear fenders rolled. Front fenders are untouched (Might need a slight pull or roll the fender lip a little more).
