Dipping Wheels

Hey all,

I'm new here so please re-direct if this is in the incorrect subforum.

I am the proud (and extremely happy) new owner of a Black 2014 Mazda6 Sport (AT) as of this past Tuesday. I was looking at some of the posts of pics of people's rides on here and saw a lot of "dipped wheels". Now, I've always wanted a black car with black wheels, and would love to save a TON of money by dipping my wheels. I, however, am still extremely confused.

To those of you who have dipped your wheels:

1. How many 11oz cans do I need for 4 wheels?
2. How long should I let each coat dry?
3. Can I clean my wheels with Plasti-Dip on them?
4. Any other tips/tricks?

Thank you!

MoeMM, the best thing to do would be to visit dipyourcar.com. They even have a Youtube channel with tips and tricks.

1. 4 cans 4 wheels (5 coats/wheel)
2. 15-20 mins on a hot 90+ deg day
3. been thru several drive thru car wash with no issues dip intact.
4. spray 6 inches away for smooth outcome spray 12+inches away for texture (not good)

tape the tires around with masking tape or painters tape for easy clean up
some people use index cards..

remove the wheels for easier dipping vs covering internal parts with plastic bag

1st coat should only be 50% coverage
2nd coat 100%
3rd coat go thick
4th coat go thicker
5th coat spray until you used up entire can.

shake often
buy the spray trigger! forearm saver!

Are you happy with the outcome? I have the 17" wheels also and wondering if it will look good. Those 19" wheels look so much better!
