Air filter thickness problem?

Anyone have problems replacing their air filter? 2010 CX-9 AWD here. The stock air filter that came from the factory fits perfectly.. no problem pulling it out or putting it back in. The replacement filter that the dealer gave me (as well as a few aftermarket filters I've tried) are too thick to close the box properly. I have to hulk smash the airbox to get it to close with the new thicker filter. Even after cramming it shut it doesn't appear that it is sealed all the way. The replacement filters also appear to have less pleats.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced that.

The rubber edge is way thicker than OE filter.
It took some effort to get it on the first time.
