Removing head shield.... good idea / bad idea?

My heat shield is really starting to rattle. I fixed it about a year and a half ago but when i was under the car today is much more rusty then i remember. Is there a real downside to removing it? I have a header on with the stock exhaust if that matters.

Won't do a thing. I took mine off and haven't had an issue. The rust has taken its toll on all of my car so I don't really have any heat shields anymore. Only one I still have is the one to the exh mani that's in the engine bay.

I cut mine off when I did the a short throw shifter. No problems, people have been running it for years without the heat shield and been fine
