CX-5 Ebay Fog Assembly DRLs

just wondering for those that removed the fog light cover, would it be possible to remove the fog light assembly from the outside after cover is removed without removing bumper?

yes, you should be able to undo the screws by undoing the bottom panel at the bottom of the bumper near the fog lights

I don't think the procedures to turn the DRL off will work in Canada, I tried it many times without success. I pulled out fuse #51 in the fuse box to disable the stock DRL for those without HID, easiest solution.

I read about the #51 fuse elsewhere around here. And that doesn't affect the high beams right?

Where are the 'stock drl's' located? In the main headlamp!?

Models with regular light bulbs, the high beam light goes low power and acts as the DRL. They turn off when regular headlights are switched on and when high beams engaged, it:s full brightness.

For cars with stock HID, it is bi-xenon, so the regular lights act as headlights and highbeams. The highbeam area is then turned into DRL only bulb.

Great explanation! Thanx ever so much!

I tried it several time as well until discovered that last procedure is to turn on the vehicle. Which this is not explain in the instruction.

These LEDs look really really good. Would someone mind posting photos of them on with the factory (yellow) DRLs and with Xenon headlights?

HI SargeCX5,

I have the same GT w/tech. I installed them but they just turn on when the headlights are on and they are 50% lit. Can you please share the intrcution that you followed. I looked at the intruction provided in this discussion but my LED from ebay doesnt come with fuse and came with intructions in chinese. IT would be really great if you can tell me how did you kookup all wires.

It looks like you wired it incorrectly. Can you tell us the wire colors in your kit?

You should use the fuse for the instrument panel or fuse #41 in the fuse box, it should turn the LED on and off with the ignition. Also I decided to dim the LED at night but the instruction is wrong, you should tap the yellow/brown wire from the position light NOT the white/brown wire. The white/brown is 12V but it's use for the signal so if you tap into this, the LED will blink with the left signal (actually goes dim and bright), I didn't see the LED dim when I tested so I thought it must be the other wire, confirm it when I turn on the left blinker.

Hi tdman,

ok so I tried many things but unable to make the dimming work. First of all my Led's didnt come with a fuse and the instructions say to hookup red and balck wire to the battery (see below)

I connected the blue wire to brown/white wire first but it didnt work as you said. Then I connected the blue wire to yellow/back (yellow/brown according to you) and the LED turns on when the side marker lights turn on but goes off after 20 second. It seems like the LED's are getting the trigger from the side marker light but they are unable to remaim lit. When I try connecting white wire to headlight dull Pink (kinda..) wire then as soon as I start the car and the headlights are on the LED lights up in dimm mode but when I turn off the car the LED brightens up and obvioulsy goes off after 20 seconds.

Below I showing the wiring for the blue wire. This Pic I took when I connected the blue wire (yeah it shows white in picture as the blue wire was short so I added a piece of white wire in front of it to make it reach the side marker wires) with the side indicator (brown/white) wire.

Where should i connect the White wire to? Also do I connect the Red wire to ACC fuse as all of you have done instead of battery? My red and black wire came with the that round pin kind of connector. Please help me out I have made hole on lot of wires using that Posi tap connector without any success (cryhard).

That would be great if anyone can post pictures of the wiring they have done.

i've been waiting for someone to post their wiring for this too but no one ever has.

Anyone out there want to help us out?

tkataria,

You obviously don't have the same kit we have, probably from another seller/manufacturer. So obviously the wireing might not be the same. You can't just blindly try every you read here hopping it works...

Note that if you need to add a length of wire for it to work, you are probably not at the right place, unless the kit you have is very badly designed, in which case I suggest not using it.

The blue to ACC in the diagram probably controls the ON/OFF of the lights. When the blue detects a 12v source, it comes on. Not sure where they expect you to put that with that type of connector... I'm no expert. Someone here might be able to confirm.

The white wire is probably for dimming. The LEDs dim when a 12V source is detected. This should probably go onto the green/white wire you have marked on your picture. Again, I'm no expert.

In any case, take care to use good quality electric tape everywhere you made unnecessary holes in your wires, or you'll get oxidation and electrical problems in the long run.

thanks a lot Vroom, I was able to figure it out by what you have suggested. So for my kit the white wire was for dimming and blue wire to power the lights up. In this thread everybody have it other way round because they have a different LED set. SO what I did is connected the blue wire to the ACC fuse (which was the big black block kinda thing) and white to the side lamps (which are basically powered when the headlights are on). So now when I turn on the car the LED lights up bright but when the headlights come on they are still lit but dims down. I think there are so many sellers on eBay selling these lights and they have some differences so one instruction might not work for the other.

Hi Tkataria,
Would you mind posting a photo of the wire connections you made. To date no one has posted on the forum a picture of the wires they connect to dim the headlamps and indicators

Hi smol, I will take some pictures today and post it.

Hi smol, I will take some pictures today and post it.

Hi Smol, Sorry for the delay but here they are. Remember that the wiring also depends on the particular kit you bought from eBay. As is my case the wiring was little different as everybody else here. After reading this whole thread many times I concluded that the blue wire is for dimming and white wire is for powering it. But in my case its other way round and it didn't occur me to try that until Vroom suggested.
In my case the red wire goes to battery +, the black wire goes to ground, White wire connects to yellow/black wire of the side marker lights for dimming and the blue wire goes to ACC fuse.
