Protege MP3 with a 626 tranny problems!

I bought a Protege MP3 from a friend. I replaced almost the entire front end when I still noticed a grinding noise. I asked my friend and he said he had put a 626 manual transmission in it. I did some research and found out the 626 axel is about a 1/4 of an inch longer than a stock Protege axel. Is there an axel I could use that would fit perfectly all together (tranny, hub, length, ect..) Or would I just be better off getting a Protege transmission for it??

If it's longer, you can have it cut by an axle specialist. Have seen it done in various swap projects and so far never seen any problems. As long as the shop is good, you'd be ok
