There's one way to check. You may want an assistant.
With both hoses pointing into a used oil receptacle, have the assistant start the car (this can be you). One of the hoses will start pumping out ATF. Once you see this, tell your assistant to stop the car (or can you go back to the car and stop it yourself). Now, you know which hose is the inlet and which is the outlet. This will not damage your transmission unless you keep on running the engine for a long time. If it is anything like the engine coolant radiator, the hose that is placed higher on the transmission will be the feeding hot ATF and the lower hose is used to return cooled ATF.
