Wishing N.A. CX-5 had rear fog lights

Anyone want to try driving without rear fogs now??
Rear fogs are so much more visible (with or without hazards) than just cars who have their lights and hazard lights on
Better to have it rather than be caught off guard....

That is true, but I can't remember the last time I thought about using a hitch with the CX-5... So that is only applicable to those who already have hitches.

Like I said before, the light itself is the easy part. An inconspicuous dedicated switch is the hard part.

The hardest part for me is finding a switch or a button that I can mount and look ABSOLUTELY factory.

I have to ask, why bother with a separate switch? If the conditions are poor enough to warrant proper use of the front fog lights wouldn't you want the rear one on as well? It would be pretty easy to use a relay with the existing wiring and switch to control the rear fog. I guess I can kind of see why you might want to control them individually but really if they're only turned on when needed it shouldn't be an issue.

That is absolutely true. Though I do find myself using my rear fog for tailgaters as well without having to turn on the lowbeams or hardwire the relay to my front fogs to a power source separate from the low beams. Also like I said before about the front "fog" lights. I occasionally leave them on. With that said, I think it would be best for me to have an individual control for the rear fogs.

Fair enough, I figured you must have a good reason. I'd like to find some decent replacements for the front fogs, something yellow that actually works as a good fog light, and then tie in a rear fog.

That is funny actually, because I was thinking of a similar idea just the other day during my commute home. I thought about slapping a bunch of LED's onto a narrow rectangle board, then suction cupping it to my rear window. I would run the wire up to a male cigarette lighter plug into the console's female. Splice on a switch. BAM! For $25, I can't go wrong with the light you posted though. I thought about using white LED's, but that might get me in trouble with authorities.

For now, I am using my windshield washer nozzles at highway speeds to get assholes off my ass. Not very effective :( . Even though I am courteous to other drivers in the left lane.

Hey SayNoToPistons, Seeing your pics reminds me of how much I miss my RX-7(s), and RX-8 now that I am a CX-5 (2016) owner... Anyway, this thread died long ago, but did you make any progress? I was looking for a rear fog solution and saw these "Car Laser Rear Fog Light Warning Lamp Anti-Collision Taillight". They project a red line on the road behind you, and claim that in fog the laser will show up nicely fanning out from the car to the road. Looks like they are relatively new as when I Google it there's suddenly a lot of Chinese vendors selling them.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned) and
https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned)

So, while they both look a little shady with no reviews to speak of, they are cheap enough that I'm thinking of getting one and ideally would wire it to the front fog light circuit, but as I have never done anything like that it would take some reading of the forums. One description claims you can wire it to the rear license plate light. Anyway I can't decide if I think it is awesome or tacky, but might just take the plunge.

If anyone else tried these rear laser fogs, let me know. I found nothing of substance in the first half dozen pages of Google results except for this post also discussing it: http://www.pistonheads.com/gAssing/...0&nmt=Is+this+rear+mounted+laser+light+legal?

and lots of "5-star" reviews on Alliexpress:
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Newe...rake-Parking-Lamp-Warn-Light/32229418163.html

I'm planning a few long road trips in the CX-5 and am going a bit overboard (for me) turning it into my version of the ultimate road trip vehicle.

I'd check state laws on where you plan to travel. Not sure if something like that would be legal everywhere.

There needs to be a lot more education in U.S and Canada when it comes to usage of lighting
Way too many morons drive with their fog lights on even when the weather is perfectly clear...can't imagine the carnage if those idiots had access to rear fog lights, they shoud only be an option right now for us educated folks.
Canada and U.S. should adopt European lighting regulations and laws as they are the safest and makes the most sense.

and way too many morons driving with non DOT approved lighting (i.e. aftermarket HID kits...)

Most rear fog lights aren't really any brighter than a brake light.. most front fog lights point at the ground not at other drivers. Our fog lights even have a cap on them. What does it matter that people use there fog lights when there is no fog? I could easily say why do cars need DRL's when it's high noon and sky clear, who cares lol). Unless you're facing a big truck or a car with aimed up fogs, or your car is slammed, your not getting blinded by fog lights lol, people make up situations that don't even apply to them.

The problem is when people have their fog lights illuminated in wet weather which makes the problem of glare seriously annoying for following drivers. Over this side of the Atlantic the inappropriate use fog lights is not only illegal but the perpetrator will find themselves on the receiving end of vilification from other road users.

Fog lights are recognised as essential in poor visibility but idiots who use them when they shouldn't not only face points on their licences and fines but are widely viewed as dickheads.

It seems to work quite well.

Hello all. Looks like this thread started a while back and then died off until just recently. I have a new CX-5 and rigging it for very long trips which occur frequently. Seeing the many reports of massive pile ups on the interstates during nasty weather including fog. I want to make sure my baby is properly outfitted. I definitely want to have rear fog lights. Was wondering if Jeremy44 was successful and if these part numbers worked?

Part #:
KD81-51-650A Fog Lamp Rear Right (RHD for Britain)
KD53-51-660A Fog Lamp Rear Left (LHD)

I had the dealer install a class3 hitch on the CX, and have found some LED lights that fit into the hitch receiver...
Might go that route
