Rear struts aluminum spacer question!

When I was installing my lowering springs there was 1/2 inch aluminum spacers that goes between the body and the strut. Do I have to have it or can I remove it for that extra 1/2 drop? When I was under looking I couldn't find a reason why not but I put them back in for now because I have to pull the struts again anyways to replace my rear struts

Nvm got it figured out previous owner wanted to raise the vehicle from sagging from the ghetto ass stereo system that was in it

Struts don't set ride height - springs do.

Yes I know that but if you put a spacer above the strut between the body it acts as a lift.
