What have you done to your CX-5 today?

OEM trunk lip trim/protector applied. Swapped door speakers for Polk DB651. Applied 3M Paint Defender to front 20" of hood (more on that later)

This morning I took my CX-5 to the ear nose and throat specialist for her annual check-up.

First up was the throat:

I said "say aaahhhh" (opened hood).

Then I removed the big, black, ribbed rubber intake hose between the air cleaner and throttle body and inspected for germs (abrasive grit). It was very clean in there (as expected, the CX-5 has a top quality air filter).

Next, I got my brightest flashlight and rotated the throttle plate open so I could inspect the intake tract for cootchies (oil blow by from the crankcase breather system). Clean as a whistle after 9,800 miles of all kinds of driving from low rpm, high mpg driving to high rpm Mountain pass highway driving in sporting mode.

Having satisfied myself that a surgical mask (oil catch can) was unnecessary and would offer zero benefit to my beloved CX-5 I went out and spent the $188.01 that I saved by not needing an oil catch can on chocolates for my beautiful wife, some edible underwear, tickets for two to see The Dandy Warhols in Seattle and made reservations for dinner and drinks at our favorite downtown restaurant. Yum, yum!

I'm so pleased with how much money my CX-5 is saving me...now I just need to figure out how to spend all that gas money I've been saving with it's very thrifty fuel consumption!

Life is good!

Yesterday, I had my friend help me install my Curt Class III Hitch...

Mine's at the shop getting 3M Crystalline 40 tint on the front doors and 70 on the windshield.
Looking forward to seeing (feeling) the result as the interior was hot just before driving over.

That's what's on our CX-5. Also installed clear over the factory tint in the rear 7 windows to help reduce the heat from entering the car.

The combination of the 3M Crystalline 40 on the front doors and 70 on the windshield turned out to be a fairly good match to the rear factory tint. I may go back and the get the rear done with 70, but I thought I would see how the just doing the front and windshield would work out with the Georgia heat.

I am pretty happy with the work the shop did. It looks pretty nice. Hopefully it will also help on preserving the interior materials and color over the years as well.

Did you have them do a darker visor on the top of the windshield?
I did not get that done, but I am still thinking about it.

Used a scrap piece of LonCoin to make a dead pedal.

This looks great, I have been noticing the wear on this foot rest in my CX5 after only 6months and was thinking about doing something just like this . What is LonCoin and how did you attach it to the carpet . i was thinking of using Velcro but was concerned about pulling up the carpet threads if it had to be removed for some reason. Thanks

10000 KM service

Did my 10000 KM oil change today, second oil change since new. Using Castrol Edge Profesional 5W-30 fully synthetic meets all specifications in owners manual. Genuine Mazda filter which costs $14 in Australia. As the filter spins on in the upright position I always prime the filter before fitting so oi;l pressure is restored quicker on start up. I cut the filter open to inspect for metal particles and it was very clean, much cleaner than the first service which i would expect with engine running in. With the knowledge from a post somewhere i found the Cabin air filter and it was pretty filthy after 6 months, so cleaned it myself by flushing hot water from the clean side to the dirty side and air dried with compressor. Holding it up to the light it looks spotless now so i know i don't have to buy a new one every time. Rotated tyres and added some more air i like to run about 36 -38 psi thye had around 32 psi. Thought i would have to reset the TPMS but no deeps or lights so all is good. Loving my Turbo diesel power .

Last week, I received my OEM cargo liner and rubber cargo mat.

Now, I don't have to buy a rear bumper guard.

Very nice!

I see you have the cargo cover. Is it worthwhile, or more trouble than it is worth? I know this one swings up with the liftgate. I have found the other style much more difficult to reposition every time you take stuff in an out, and more often than not, it stays rolled up unless you really need it.

No issues with the cargo cover so far, the selling point for me was the fact that it does swing up with the lift gate. Found it for $144 shipped on eBay, actually came from the Lynchburg Mazda dealership.

Agreed, it's well-designed (hands-free to use) and frequently the dealerships here discount them for that kind of pricing.

Changed out muffler tips for 4" SS doublewall Magnaflow

Readily available from many sources. All price-controlled by manufacturer @ $70/each as here on Amazon.com https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned), but very nice hardware and the correct size in terms of inlet, outlet and length for the CX-5. Lots of "cutting and pasting" involved to get both tips positioned correctly in the valance holes prior to welding up. Muffler shop labor was $80. Not an inexpensive mod, but for me better than the alternatives.
