What Size Block Heater?

Hi everyone. I am new to this particular forum but I've spent enough time on the Escort forum to know I owe you a thorough search of prior threads before asking my question. Anyways, I found nothing answering my particular question so now I am asking.

• What style is the Mazda block heater: freeze plug or thread-in?
• What size is the Mazda block heater: 38mm, 40mm, 3/4" NPT, etc.?

I found plenty of threads with people wanting or selling a used one but for the average price these used Mazda ones are going for I could get a brand new one shipped for free from Amazon all day long. I just need to know which one.

For anyone else who may be thinking of a block heater...

They also have magnetic ones that you could probably stick to the oil pan.

I put one in the protege not that long ago. It's a freeze plug style that fits in just to the left of the oil filter. You can order them through Napa. Professional installation is recommended if you don't have access to a lift (you basically need the arms of gumby when you're lying on your back).
