blown mazda 6, 2.3 motor, can I use any mazda 2.3 motor to replace the blown one?

Hello all, I have a friend who blew the motor in his 2002 Mazda 6. would it be cheaper to fix it?, blew a piston and a rod. or would any Mazda 2.3 motor be a direct swap? Thanks for your time and help..

Sorry for the late reply but What kinda of transmission does he have? An usaly just about an 02-04 will due, but i'd go online to this site an motor's are about 800-1,110$ an you can get his yr so it'll bolt right in just get back to me an ill help ya out.
