Do I need an antenna adapter for an aftermarket radio?

Just curious. Going to install a double din. I got the dash and wiring kit from Crutchfield, but I neglected to see if I needed an antennae adapter?
My wife is really going to want that so she can listen to NPR.

Yes, you will need that adapter. Don't forget to connect the blue antenna or remote wire to the blue adapter lead.

Any reason? I was wondering why there was a lead on it.
These have fixed aerials. Is it supplying some sort of amp signal to the antennae?

how come when I go to Crutchfield it says this will not work with my 2010 Mazda5

Sorry, didn't see 2010. Mine is a 2012 and I needed the adapter. The lead is to turn on the antenna amp. Metraonline.com says you don't need it.

yeah, that's what I'm seeing too
but there's something about that adapter I mentioned working with 2006 and up Mazdas.

Please post some pictures of the installed head unit. I am wanting a radio with HD radio built in and was considering buying a new head unit (I currently have a JVC aftermarket in there - I have an '09 Sport MT).
