Can you use a Keyfob instead of a Smartkey???

I just purchased a used 2008 CX-9 GT and it only came with 1 smart key. I've been looking around a little bit, and it looks fairly expensive to purchase another one. Can I use on of the key fobs instead? They seem to be significantly cheaper. Will they allow keyless entry and ignition as well? Thanks!

If you use a regular fob, how would you start the car? There is no hard key. In order to activate the keyless start, you need an advanced key.

If you should lose your remaining one, the price tag will double or even triple.

Where is the most economical place to purchase a second smart key? I cannot find them for under $150 on ebay. Thanks
