Rally2003's Build Thread

Ooooh, well excuse me! So since they didn't come out today I'm not allowed to tell Corey about them? :p

I thought about it too but there are those cold mornings when you need the defroster on the windshield. Unless you mean just the A/C components, then yes, delete that useless crap. Why? BRC.

Real men don't need heaters.

But what about the windshield on cold Ohio auto-x mornings? I've debated deleting the heating/cooling air box in the P5 and looping the heater core hose but was told by Marc to keep the heater in.

My car without AC takes forever in the cold mornings to unfog the damn windshield I'd hate to see it without heat. Anymore of these 4C days(39F) days and ill be starting to take my winter car.

What do race cars do? Does Lexan not fog up? Anti-fog solution on the windows?

I know the anti-fog drops don't work that well for dive masks, but oddly enough, spitting on them does. I think it would take a while to spit on all the interior windows to the point where they wouldn't fog up, lol.

Depends on what's going on. Condensation (fog) on the inside means the inside is warmer than the outside so you'll want to cool/dry the air inside the car (A/C). Condensation outside means the outside is warmer and you'll want to heat up the window (heater). However, you really just need to equalize the temperature/humidity, which can be accomplished by leaving the windows open for a while.

I didn't think about if it was raining... You'd be pretty much screwed without a blower motor, no?

(sorry if we're crapping up your thread, Corey)

Lexan does fog up and even with fans and defrosters in the car, the windshield was still fogged up. Stevenson Motorsports had some one make their windshields similiar to the rear windows with defroster, this was the only solution. the filament is thinner that what is used in rear window defrosters as not to impaired.

Thanks Evan. I have never seen the carbon fibre Ray Bans before, but the $220 is killer. I'll stick with my $80 Fox glasses.

I still need the heater because there has been a couple mornigs before autoX where the car has been covered with ice all over it, like last year at Gueaga Lake when I stayed over at Evan and Phen's house. I woke up to a frozen car with the doors frozen shut. I wouldn't have been able to go if I didn't have heat. I took the a/c out because I never used it. Technically for SM you need to leave the heater in the car, but what they don't know I guess is there own problem. Kinda hard to tell if the heater core and other crap is under the dash if you don't take out the glove box.

win+1 I always have the windows down. Keeps me from getting pulled over for have too dark of window tint as well.

Yeah, I was going to say the only time you REALLY need heat is if your windshield is covered with ice, but generally you won't be racing in those conditions (not talking about ice rallies here). If for some reason it's frosty in early April I would think you could scrape the ice off and open the windows. It'd be cold as crap in the car but you have to run with the windows open anyway.

The resin looks completely dry now and will be installed later today. I'll post some pics in a bit.

I can't find my stupid ac-heat controls and I broke 2 stupid clips for the back of the bezel, but she fits in nice and snug. The only thing that sucks is my ride quality is a little ruff and with the clips broke it wants to pop off.

double sided tape?

Looks really good

^Some resin got behind the clip and it snapped off when it was pressed in. I'll be at the junkyard tomorrow to pick up another P/S pump so I'll get some clips too.
