fog lights with out head lights on?

It sure looks helpful! I'm just not sure how to determine whether the relay is positively or negatively triggered, and how we would go about adding a second relay to send it the opposite signal in order for it to turn on/remain on with the ignition.

Trying to find the Day Time running light relay.
The headlamp needs to be off to run the Fog only and my Touring auto lighting my be hard to by-pass. I got to look at these blueprints a bit more :)

It has happened

Hey everybody , I got real excited and posted that pic the day we finished . I wanted to drive with it a while to make sure there were no issues . I'll post everything this weekend

Fog lights on without headlights

This will bypass your headlight dependent switch and turn the fog lights on when ignition is 'on'

Finding a power input. Remove battery for clearance then you need to access under the fuse panel to tap your power 'on' , I used the Fan1 relay .

<a href="http://s69.photobucket.com/user/p3rm/media/45C17915-128F-4DB4-A6C1-3FC1F8FC54AA_1.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i67/p3rm/45C17915-128F-4DB4-A6C1-3FC1F8FC54AA_1.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 45C17915-128F-4DB4-A6C1-3FC1F8FC54AA_1.jpg"/></a>

Using a scotch lock(insulation displacement connection) tap into the power , and attach about 6 inches of wire .

Remove your Fog light relay . I put it into a non-wired empty slot , you can see it in the picture labeled "spare".

Last step. I ran the power wire up through an existing hole . Attached a male spade connector. Then slid it into the #30 slot in the fog light relay location.

I will likely make this last connection under the panel soon leaving nothing visible. I wanted to be able to disconnect easily while testing. We tried real hard to get the fog light switch to still work , but it would require more complexity.

Did u get the scotch lock at autozone? What about the extra wire? What Guage is it? Is it possible to bypass the fuse box and just splice/crimp the fog wire and blower fan together?

Sounds kind of like what I did for my LED halos. I used an open relay slot and tied the input into the fan1 relay inputs to hijack the ignition power. Then just ground on one side and power on the other. I've thought about doing this with the fogs, but I'm not sure yet. I might keep them as fogs instead of converting them to DRL's.

Strangep3rm, Thank you for posting the excellent how-to pics! I have the same question as mykflo - what gauge wire did you use, and what size male spade did you use?

And mykflo, as for bypassing the fusebox, I'm not sure that's a great idea. It's usually good to have a pass-through with these types of mods, just in case there is a problem, it can help to identify which element/device/end is causing the issue.

The wire and lock were 14gauge . You should be able to buy it anywhere . The spade connecter was similar in size to the relay plug but I don't know what it is.

Has anyone else done this? I'm about to get to it next week if the temps really get back in to the mid 50s. Strangep3rm, is everything still working well?
