Ugh. The US does not require these as you all know. They are highly distracting especially if you are not used to seeing them - as most people are not used to them since THEY ARE NOT REQUIRED HERE. Especially for those bros who think it's cool and don't understand the purpose of them & decide to drive with them on all the time at night even without fog. I was very distracted/ almost blinded by the brightness of rear fogs that were activated on an Audi SUV on a dark fogless road.

In Conclusion: This is stupid to have in the USA.

It all depends, on how bright they are. If they are not super bright as the factory ones, I believe they are OK.
I will have to do this myself, it's easy and cool mod. Thanks for sharing.
Could you please share, the socket part number and where did you hook it up?

THIS! I was driving in the left lane waiting my turn to pass a Lexus RX (SUV) that somehow had their rear foglights lit up and it was super distracting. I can still see you without those stupid things! I don't know why anyone would do this.

Bought the socket at aliexpress... you can also buy it at eBay. Just search t10 socket. . ... I'll tap the side marker wires

The feature is pointless for the morons who don't know how to use them correctly.

I'm guessing those of us in this thread would be adding the feature and actually using it for its intended purpose... It's a rear FOG light, you know, to be used in FOG when visibility sucks.

But I agree, those few European cars on the road that drive with them on contantly are extremely annoying. I'm guessing the drivers are totally oblivious to the fact their car is even equipped with rear fog lights.

I dont see this being an issue if the reflector instantly becomes well illuminated by a headlight which it does. I can spot a mazda or any other car w rear reflectors half a mile down the road at night

We had a sign behind the service desk stating there was a $5 charge for explaining something that was covered in the owners manual. That would work here too as I see questions on the forum that were answered in the owners manual.

Fog lights are for lighting the ROAD just in front of you in fog. If you want them aimed higher then they are not fog lights, they are driving lights!

As for those reflectors, I have been thinking about adding parking lights to them as I haven't seen a thick fog in 20 years.

A T10 bulb, is hardly a fog light bulb. It won't bother anybody. A 21W bulb, would be bothering others.

True, but a good driving light should be mounted higher than a fog light so it can be angled down and still be effective as a driving light.

It is mandated in all 50 states (DOT reg) to have two rear reflectors (L & R) on the back of a passenger car or truck. I am ignorant to whether or not the CX-5 rear tails have reflectors in the housings, IN ADDITION to the lower reflectors, but I'm pretty sure they don't. So don't remove the reflectors if you want to stay compliant.

Instead, find a vendor who will produce some aftermarket LED swap-ins. This way, you keep the reflective lense AND get rearward visibility or whatever.

I have a set of smoked LED lower reflectors on my Speed6.

if you look all cars with drl have reflectors separably on the back because so many idiots forget to put there head lights on at night .

Hi,
I own an spanish CX5, LHD, and the rear fog light is on the LEFT.

I bought online the part to put on the right, because I'm living now in the UK, and I have registered the car here, and I have to put a rear fogt light ON THE RIGHT.

my concern is about cabling.
do you know if there is the cable "ready to plug" on the other side ? or will have to bring to cable & bulb connector to the other side ? (uhm)

There is no pre-laid wiring harness for rear foglight in US version CX-5. You may find rear foglight wiring for both sides so it's easier for Mazda during assembling for EU markets. But this is something you have to look and find out by yourself.

Please report back what you found. And I'd really appreciated if you can attach some pictures, especially the front/rear foglight stalk switch showing the rear foglight symbol and these front/rear foglight indicators in dash cluster.

Well,
this is the picture I took last weekend, from the little lid/cover next to the read wheel, LHD drivers side.
W21W connector, and another one I dont know what it is..

Will provide more pictures as soon as I open the other side...

cheers

Hi again,
for your information, there is no cabling available at the other side.
So I will have to extend the cable from one side to the other. Not a big problem.

The problem I have is with the connectors.
I would like to have light on both sides, but I have to figure out what connector is this

Any idea where can I buy both male and female ?

thanks.

Can you have both sides for rear fog in UK? Is the reflector/rear fog housing looks the same on both sides? Is the right side ready to take a bulb or it's only an empty reflector housing? I'd try Mazda dealer getting additional male/female connectors for rear fog.

Legally speaking, I can have fog lights on center or right side of the vehicle.
So, I want to move the bulb and connector, and the cabling.
But I dont want to "cut and solder" any cable. I prefer to connect and extend to the other side.

the car, as bought in Spain, came with rear left side light. and right side with a reflector only, and no housing for a bulb.
So I bought in ebay uk the full lamp. 25 pounds. (I consider is not expensive...)

but I need now both connector, male and female...

any idea?
this is the housing at lamp side.

Front and rear fog lights are useless as tits on a bull. Only serve to blind or annoy other drivers, especially when road surface is wet. Stock lights are brighter than ever. Enough already.
