2013 CX-5 Touring, FWD, Tech Package, fog lights, Bose, Moonroof
We were about to buy a 3i Grand Touring 5door yesterday. I had researched the 3, Focus, and Elantra. We decided the Mazda 3 would be for us. Anyway, while at the dealer working out some details on the 3, my wife was bugging the girl to show her the CX5 while waiting for some paper work. Once inside, she was sold. She test drove it and "demanded" we rethink the 3.

By evening we were driving home in a Pearl White CX5 Touring. We were able to get the tech package and moonroof/Bose options. I really don't like the cloth interior (although comfy) but she prefers it to leather. I do love the new style Nav screen. So much better than the one in the 3.

These new SUVs really impress me. The engine/tranny seems to work well and the 5 handles really well. It actually feels like it can take some corners. Oh-- I thought at first we made a mistake by not getting a SAT radio, but gee wiz, the HD stations are numerous around here and sound fantastic on the Bose setup. We rarely listened to SAT radio in our Altima and even cancelled the subscription, so not having the option won't be too hard to get over.

Long story short, I really am happy we saw this vehicle. My wife is very happy too, and I guess that's all that matters. Time will tell how this newly designed vehicle fares over the long haul.

A small exception to my post-- I owned a 1991 Ford Escort GT years ago, so I guess in a way I had a Mazda before. It was all Protege under the skin.

My wife loves our CX5 also... more than I do for sure lol. It's better that way if you share it. :)

I also had my first "Mazda" by way of the good ole GT. Mine was a 93 5 speed and was a fantastic car. That might be the only car I never ever regretting buying, even for a second.

Congrats on your purchase :) Mazda came out right on time with the CX-5 as we were about to get a Honda CRV or Nissan Rogue ourselves. This is my second mazda as I had a 92 Mazda MX-6

Yes they were were very well made. Bullet proof engine and tranny. 125000 trouble free miles. I too regret selling it. I even autocrossed mine and did quite well. That car was nicknamed "Red Rocket" :)

Awesome, lol. Mine was caymen green and was still going strong at 225,000 miles when it was wrecked recently by the kid I sold it to. Could not kill those things, and I tried ha ha. We should call them cockroaches.

We had a 98 CRV-EX 5 speed and loved it. It never gave us more than 26 on the highway which made me leary of getting another 4 cyl SUV... but so far I can tell this engine will blow the old CRV gas mileage away. The CRV first gen was a bargain. We should not have parted with it in 2008, but we did. My son should be driving it :( Oh well.

When I autocrossed it, I routinely hit the rev limiter in 1st and 2nd. lol! When we sold it in 2002, it was not burning or leaking oil. Quite amazing. Best 10K dollars I ever spent. (what it cost me brand new.) My good friend, Joe Graves was a regional autocross champion and he drove a 91 EGT as well. His was slightly modified, but still very close to stock engine/drive train. He embarrassed quite a few BMW owners on the track. ;)

Wanted add a little about myself.. I retired from the Navy a couple years back. I was a Chief Petty Officer and worked in the meteorology and oceanography field. I've been married for 25 years. Two kids.. one recently married. The other starting college. I'm currently working as an oceanographer/scientist for the Navy again.

We live in Slidell.

This seems like a good community .. much like the Nissan forum I hang out at. We still have another Nissan- the Versa hatchback- my commuter car.

Sorry to hear about your Versa. j/k lol

I've surfed Mazda forums now and then since buying a my 06 Mazda5. I've always been impressed. At least with the mazda3 crowd, there is a ton of good info shared. I'm not a tuner, but I like to see what they're doing with their cars.... good and bad.

Once I retired my 93GT from everyday driving duty, I thought about turning it into a "tuner" just for fun. But with +200k, that might not have been a great idea. Now I'll never know lol. We just kept it around as an extra runaround car and something to loan to friends, etc. Finally sold it a couple months ago after taking good care of it for 18 years, and it was wrapped around a telephone pole about a week later. Guess it was too much fun for a 16 year old kid.

Welcome aboard!
I too went to the dealer to buy a 5dr Skyactiv Mazda3, and I too was "convinced" by the wife to get the CX5 instead.
Happy wife, happy life...

Yeah well that crappy versa gets me 33mpg all around so I ask for forgiveness for driving such a boring car. Lol...
Were you a member of EGT forum on Yahoo Groups? My EGT was loaded with parts from Mazdaspeed. Mostly suspension and a few engine tweeks.

Never was on any internet groups/forums for the EGT... sounds like I should have been though.

Welcome dsonyay62 - Congrats on a nicely equipped CX-5.

I too was skeptical about a 4-banger awd SUV, the last one I had I did not enjoy (2001 Toyota Rav4 2.0L w/4speed auto tranny) and only kept for 2 years.
