What did you pay for your CX-5?

Just bought our new CX-5 during Thanksgiving weekend, posting my selling price in case it helps anyone else. I'm in Nor Cal Bay area and got a lot of quotes from various dealers, and the inventory (with the spec I wanted) sold fast and only a few were left, so pulled the trigger after I felt it was a good price. This has been a very useful and welcoming community throughout my research process, so be happy to return the favor at any time.

2017 CX-5 Touring, machine grey, AWD, Preferred Package + roof rails

$29,635 MSRP

$26,624 dealer selling price (without rebates, used this amount to calculate taxes)
$1,250 cash rebate
$500 auto show rebate

$24,874 before TTL

$27,623 OTD + free all weather mats + free 7,500 mile service

The catch was that I had to finance at "standard rate" (very high considering my good credit at 4.99%), but I paid it off as soon as the loan was posted, so paid ~$50 bucks in interest. All the dealerships were pushing this structure even after I told them I plan to pay cash. Most likely due to commissions from the loan, and they want you to have the loan open for 3+ months, but the contract and California law have no pre-payment penalty.

If anyone local is in the market, I can refer you to my sales guy (who was very down to earth and respectful).

Thoughts on how well I negotiated? Good price?
What you got is what I exactly what I want (except for the roof rails and the color, but I've become flexible on the color except maybe for white). Where did you go? How did you get that price? I'm not in the military and I'm not a previous Mazda owner so I can't get those discounts. If your guy were to offer me that price right now, I'd leave after work to get that car. I'd be interested in talking with you.

Congratulations!!!

New to Mazda

Just joined the Mazda family.

We got a 2017 CX-5 Grand Touring w/roof rails. No premium package. Dark Metallic Blue, Black Interior.

MSRP: $30,735
Less Rebate: -$1,250
Less Discount from Haggling:-$1,485

Sale Price: $28,000

OTD w/ 6.5% tax and $200 tags: $29,620

Used my own secured financing at 3.04%/72months

This is our practical vehicle to compliment our 2011 and 2016 Mustang GT. The CX5 is replacing a 2008 Honda Accord that had 240,000 miles (did not trade in).

So far we like the CX5 quite a bit!

2018 CX-5 GT w/Tech Package in SCR/Parchment

MSRP (including freight, air tax): $39,045 CAD not including taxes etc
Dealer's MSRP: $40,306 CAD (boom03) not including taxes etc.
Invoice Price: ~$36,160 CAD not including taxes etc

I was not expecting a whole lot above and beyond being "offered" a loyalty discount because they only just started getting the 2018s in. I think they only had one 2018 CX-5 GT on site - not in colour I wanted.

I got my 1% loyalty discount on the interest rate plus a discount of $745 off dealer's MSRP but fortunately that is not whole story. They offered me $6,500 cash (not as a trade-in on my deal summary, this will be a separate transaction) for my 2010 Mazda 3 with 129,000 km. This is about $3-4,000 above trade in value on KBB/CBB. As a comparison, the day before Toyota only offered me $2,500 trade in, and I also know Mazda actually assessed my car at $3,500.

So, I consider that extra $3-$4,000 an additional hidden discount to make it a little more enticing. $40,306 - $745 - $3,000 (or $4,000) = $36,561 (or $35,561) not including taxes etc. I turned around and used some of my planned budget room and added winter tires, another set of alloy rims, and a remote starter. Numbers worked out well enough I am doing my first ever lease (five years) as even if I decide to buy it at end my premium over five years of financing is something I am quite comfortable with for having the flexibility to take it back at end too. I have realized five years is about as long as I want to live with a car these days.

Now I just have to wait for it to get here! (toetap)

Oh yes, and with their year end event I get a "free" (LOL) Bose companion speaker or BT headphones or Revolve+. Since I am going to get the Revolve+, I took back the JBL Charge 3 I bought last week so I guess it also effectively saved me another $189 + tax ;)

3% tax: $796.70

Used my own financing at 2.99%/72 months.

Damn doc fees. My dealer charges $689 but because they know people hate it they also “include” three years of tire repair/road assistance, tire storage, and windshield treatments (the latter which, eh, but at least I can have satisfaction of knowing I can be a PITA every 3-4 months and take it in and make sure they retreat it since I had to pay that damn fee!)

I fear I may not have made a great deal - but if it helps anyone I recently bought a 2017 CX-5 GT AWD (Eternal Blue) with the premium package on 12/16/17. My breakdown is as follows:

For the car itself w/o package: $30,453 (Including destination charge)
+$1629 for the premium package
+ $25 Wheel locks
+ $585 for Remote Start. (Two way remote fob - NOT the Mazda Mobile)
+ $100 All weather floor mats
- $500 For Mazda Loyalty

Total before taxes and fees: $32,300

Did get the 0% financing through - which is nice.

That is why I always negotiate out the door price, and if they want to add the doc fee they need to reduce the asking price of the vehicle. I have heard it all, it is required, the state makes us put it on their, which is true, but the fee is made up. I got 6 oil change/tire rotation services for free. I have flat out asked them to remove it and they will not, but they will gladly reduce the price of the vehicle by $600, whatever makes them happy.

What is tire storage? Is that for winter tires? If so glad I don't have to deal with that down here in our balmy winters.

In my case at least they were upfront about it from the start, and then did the "additional services" even if they won't remove it. I did get (what I think) is a very fair discount on a brand new 2018 so no complaints.

Yes, tire storage is for seasonal tire storage...store whichever ones you aren't running at the time. Easier than hauling them back home and storing in garage. Will do latter if I have to pay for it though.

I just got a GS AWD Metallic Grey yesterday
MSRP: 31,435
SALE Price: 27,899
REBATES: 500 Loyalty + 500 Grand Select Rebate
Final Sale Price: 26,899
OTD Price: 29450 or so in CA with 7.75% tax rate.

I got roughly 15% off MSRP without having to use the $1250 rebate + standard financing. I financed with 0 down / 0 APR walked out with a couple of my signatures. I'm happy :)

Excellent thread. Helped with my first Mazda purchase and a new car after a decade.
2017 Mazda CX-5 Touring FWD with preferred package
Soul Red with Beige interior

OTD: 26059

Love the car

Its official for me, went to the dealer to close a deal on Canada's Boxing Day (similar to Black Friday Deal). The dealership on our area hasn't got their CX5 2018 in stock yet but they sold their very first one TO ME =) ...

MSRP $36,600
Accessories $3,636.45 (Inlcludes Paint Charge (White), wheel locks, Premium Floor Liner Front & Back, Remote Starter, Window Visor, Mud Guards Front & Back, Rear Bumber Guard, Alloy Pedal Sets, Cargo Tray, Cargo Cover, and Winter Tire (Michellin))

Total $40,236.45
Discount (5%) $1,830.45 (MSRP only *damn fine print*)
Deliver Expense $600

Total Sale Price $39,006.00 (Before 15% CDN Tax)

The total sale price is great right before tax but in the end I still end up buying more option from the dealers and that freights/ac conditioner tax and OMVC fee addons X_X ....

OMVC Fee $10
Freight $1,295
A/C Tax $100
--------------------
Extend Warranty (Bumper to Bumper) from 3 years to 5 years $2,400 (Their extended warranty covers windshield replacement to use OEM products and not what insurance wants ... A MUST)
Rip Tear Burn - Leather $499
Paint Protection | Bubbling | Surface Rust Perforation (10 years) $399
APM 3100 Rust Module $995 (Why not)
Tint 2 Front Windows 35% $350
3m Hood & Fender (invisible guard) $589

Grand Total Price $45,659.50 (BEFORE TAX)
CDN Tax $5,935.74

FINAL TOTAL $51,595.24

Hot Damn .... So worry free for the next 5 years after all those options and upgrades. Financing it for 5 Years with 1.99% because of the -1% due to loyalty program for $417 bi-weekly. Yep, belts will be very tight for the next 5 years.

Even got my VIN #: JM3KFBDM9J0314139 (wonder if this is even in the system yet :p)

Quick update. Though I haven't physically been in to any dealers and only dealing with "internet sales" at a variety of dealerships, I was quoted $35,440 all in (incl. tax and "fees") for a 2WD GT w/premium package. This is using 0% for 60 months. This seems way out of line, particularly considering this is a 2017 model and we're at the end of year. Would love to get a temperature reading from folks who have recently purchased. HATE the car buying process!

We like before tax numbers. Much easier. If you live in a really high tax area that might be ok.

MSRP $36,600
Accessories $5,292.45
Total $40,236.45

Extras...
Deliver Expense $600
Freight $1,295
Extend Warranty $2,400
Rip Tear Burn - Leather $499
Paint Protection $399
APM 3100 Rust Module $995
Tint 2 Front Windows 35% $350
3m Hood & Fender $589

Discount $1,830.45
Grand Total Price $45,659.50 (BEFORE TAX)

I assume this is a fake troll post?

First off, your math doesn't even add up...
- The MSRP & accessories adds to $41,892, NOT $40,236.
- Your Grand Total price is $47,299, NOT $45,659
- Your "5%" discount is completely wrong. It looks like you calculated it just off the MSRP. It should actually be calculated on the total price you pay the dealership for the vehicle (including all add-ons, accessories, fees, ect). Your actual discount was 3.7%.

Well I just wrote down what the receipt gave me. If you think its Troll ... get a life ... see pic attached ... I didnt do that math yet ... too excited ...

*Edited*
Well I checked back and it looks like I added the accessories twice ... amount should be $3,636.45 =) ... too excited to check it ... will fix it...

I figured out why you think it is 3.7% ... because of fine print ... well any discount on a car that is not in the market yet is better than nothing ...

If it's not fake troll post, then someone got a great Christmas present.....the dealer.
Wow, what a rip off.

Well I just wrote down what the receipt gave me.

Well, with all due respect, I'm glad you're excited.
It's always a thrill buying a new car, but I have to say, you paid way too much for all those goodies.
Bursting your bubble is not what I want to do, so I won't go through all the items on your list.
All I'll say is that dealerships make most of their money on accessories and add-ons, and in your case, they did very well.
Good luck.
