Rear Heat from Center Console Not Working

I have a 2008 CX9 GT model. The car is new to me. It has approx 88,000 kms (approx 52,800 miles). The heat to the rear seats from the rear vents from the center console does not work. The air conditioning cooling option works, but the heat does not. The centre console fan works o.k., but only on the a/c cool option. When heat is selected on the center console selector, the fan does not seem to come on. The "rear control" button is selected on the main console in the front.

Am I doing something wrong?

The heat should come from the vents under the front seats, the vents in the center console only blow cold air. Don't ask me why it was designed this way...

I believe this is so only when it is in "Auto" mode.
Hot air comes out of bottom vents (naturally going upwards).
Cold air comes out of top vents.
If you exit "Auto" mode, it should work as you expected.

We were also dismayed by this quirkey design. If you want to heat up the back seat folks, put the fan motor on a much higher setting than you usually would. Also be sure that you are set on the "foot" mode too, ensuring the greater volumne of hot air is moving to the underseat vents. In a few moments your passengers will be asking for a cooler setting.
