Hi guys,

I need an Oil Control Valve to fix my P2088 code and hard starting issue. The only thing is that I can't find them anywhere.

I also need a Purge Solenoid Valve. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks,
Scott

The OCV is not available alone. You need to purchase the timing chain guide that it sits in, even though the valve is easily removable. Check onlinemazdaparts.com, MazMart or dealership.

oil control valve is under the valve cover and bolts to the front where the oil feed to the vvt actuator is. Just go to yoru dealer and order one and a valve cover gasket and you should be good, If that is whats setting your dtc

2003 - Mazda6 - Workshop Manual - Engine
OIL CONTROL VALVE (OCV) INSPECTION [L3]
Coil Resistance Inspection
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the plug hole plate. (See PLUG HOLE PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3].)
3. Disconnect the OCV connector.
4. Measure the resistance between terminals A and B using an ohmmeter.
If not as specified, replace the OCV.

Specification
6.9—7.9 ohms

5. Connect the OCV connector.
6. Install the plug hole plate. (See PLUG HOLE PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3].)
Spool Valve Operation Inspection
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the plug hole plate. (See PLUG HOLE PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3].)
3. Remove the OCV. (See PLUG HOLE PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3].)
4. Verify that the spool valve in the OCV is in the maximum valve timing retard position as indicated in the figure.
If not as specified, replace the OCV.

5. Verify that the battery is fully charged.
If not as specified, recharge the battery.

6. Apply battery positive voltage between the OCV terminals and verify that the spool valve operates and moves to the maximum valve timing advance position.
If not as specified, replace the OCV.

NOTE:

When applying battery positive voltage between the OCV terminals, the connection can be either of the following:

Positive battery cable to terminal A, negative battery cable to terminal B

Positive battery cable to terminal B, negative battery cable to terminal A

7. Stop applying battery positive voltage and verify that the spool valve returns to the maximum valve timing retard position.
If not as specified, replace the OCV.

8. Install the OCV. (See OIL CONTROL VALVE (OCV) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3].)
9. Install the plug hole plate. (See PLUG HOLE PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3].)
