Jess's 91 BRG LS6 Build Thread

Looks awesome! I don't know how I'm not subscribed to this.

Edit: What's up with your trunk lid? Is that from an NB Miata?

It was one of the first Autokonexion stick-on trunk spoilers that I then had a friend mold in. I've been debating going with the taller one they offer now.

Updates on this: Welded the sway bar brackets on. Figured out radiator mount brackets. Engine is back out, need to paint the lower half of the bay (was waiting till the welding was done), get a new clutch (ugh), then it can go in for good and I can work on running the brake lines and wiring.

Hmmmmmm. This thread is way behind.

-New Spec Stage 2 clutch shimmed/installed
-The engine and tranny are in
-Radiator brackets have been made but it's not in yet
-Headers are mounted
-Clutch and brake master cylinders are mounted
-Clutch pedal reinforced
-6.0L truck starter (shorter) replaced the 5.7L one for ease of access/installation of headers
-Fuel lines have been run
-XIDA CS's have been installed
-Tranny crossmember/frame rail brace mounting has been modified to tuck everything above the frame rails
-New wheels were painted
-Hood struts have arrived (yay no more hood prop!)
-Nardi arrived
-Wiring has been started... engine harness is ready but chassis wiring isn't done.

Hub/QR have been ordered along with a carbon euro rear finish panel.

I want those Xidas. I think that I'm going to go that route instead of Koni Races.

Yay for updates! Now if only I can get you to stop modding the Smart... ;)

MOAR UPDATES!

Swapped out the rear springs on the XIDAs. They came with 6"/500lb, I replaced with 5"/500lb to give me more clearance between the collar and the axle. Keep in mind, the V8R axles are larger in diameter than a stock Miata axle. You'll also notice how far back I yanked the axle boot so it wouldn't contact anything.

Before (about an 1/8" clearance):

After (a smidge over 1/2" clearance):

I'm not running any preload, just threaded the collars up till it kept the spring in place.

I forgot to put the driver side brake bracket on but by the time I made it to the passenger side I remembered...
Before and after of passenger side (this is to relocate the junction block to driver side and make a receptacle for the brake line on the passenger side):

Also mounted up the ECU, TAC box for the drive by wire pedal, fuse box, and the brake proportioning valve:

Mounted (out of the way but easier to get to than under the hood):

The brake lines going to/from the prop valve will mostly be hidden. That's next..

I used an OEM S10 mount for the ECU, and just bolted it to the homemade bracket so it wasn't rattling around. I still need to add rubber isolators, just in case.

New parts arrived, thanks to Miataroadster and Treasurecoastmiata:

Old stances were put on the white 90 I picked up, and stayed on after I sold it to my sister for a track car

I wana see this. Btw. Love that purple, absolutely amazing
Thanks :)

Bump for moar pictars!
I should get you guys some.. shouldn't I?

Brakes are 100% installed and bled. The clutch.............. is being a complete b**** to bleed. As in, I have been attempting it for a combined total of like 8 hours. I really wonder if the master is bad. But it's a brand new wilwood. I think the culprit is just a ton of air in the system due to being a new master and a new slave. It's wreaking havoc on my progress, let me tell ya lol.

Diff now has new fluid and I'm waiting on a shipment of the tranny fluid...

I hate to ask a simple question... but did you bench-bleed all of the new brake stuff?

Autoparts ... assuming by taking on this project you have access to an aircompressor... air compressor bleeder= Cake! Or even a gun both around $40

The brake stuff was simple and it's done.

The clutch stuff is not. Bench bled the master but not the slave. The T56 slave is not your typical slave, it goes onto the input shaft. I honestly am not even sure how it works! It really seems like I'm just pushing a ton of air around.

That's what I've been trying to do! I have a kit where you fill a bottle with fluid and stick it in the master reservoir so you won't run out. Then you connect it to your bleeder line and it SHOULD suck out the air/fluid, but it isn't happening. It sucks out fluid alright, along with air, but it's never-ending (I've put the whole bottle in/out/in). It's almost like it's taking in air somewhere. For it to take air in, it should leak fluid also.... but it isn't leaking anywhere...

Let me clarify. I have a remote bleeder line on the T56 slave. My bleed line comes into the engine bay. I've even tried pumping the pedal and bleeding like that vs. vacuum, too. I'll get a few good pumps of fluid/air and then all of a sudden my pumps of the pedal do NOTHING. Like, no fluid comes out. Sit for a little bit, try again, exact same thing--fluid/air, then nothing. Combine that with the fact that the Wilwood bleeder screw on the master only takes about a 1/16" of a turn to be open (wtf?) and I've just had no luck.

:(

edit: weird T56 slave:

Small update. I think the clutch is finally bled. We will see once the car is running and I try to put it in gear, lol.
