How to Repair Broken Gas Cap Tether

2008 Mazda CX-9 GT, 2008 Maserati Gran Turismo, 2011 911 Turbo S
Here is a simple repair that I did this weekend and only took 10 minutes to do. You'll need a trim removal tool, crimper, crimp lug (for 10 to 12 gauge wire), and nut/bolt.

1) Using the trim removal tool, carefully pry off the plastic retainer that is attached to the gas lid.
2) Crimp the lug to the gas cap tether using the crimper.
3) Carefully thread the bolt through the lug and through the hole in the gas lid where the plastic retainer used to be.
4) Attach nut to the other side and tighten.

Looks good . Did you have yours replaced at one point. Cap looks like my replacement one. The old one used to say BP Fuel Recommended on it.
 
No, it was the original one that came with the CX-9. I never bothered to replace it since the new one would probably break anyways.
