Alternator issues

just had it tested. its one of the only original parts on the car after 8 years.
when I turn the A/C on, it gives up and the battery takes over.

I tested it with the lights, A/C and the amp/subwoofer on...

how much time do you think is left before it lets go?!!

and if so, where is a good place to pick a refurb up and for how much?

I wouldn't wait for it to give out completely - there's not really any way to tell exactly when it will go. I assume you've checked the obvious things first though, such as the tightness of your belts and the connection to the alternator?

Personally, I'd get a reman'd unit from RockAuto.com. Beck/Arnley and Bosch both make good reman'd units for about $140.
