Project - Rum Runner

One mod I did during the summer was install the Prosport gauges that my fiancee bought me, 1 that a friend gave me and 1 that I bought. I also forgot to mention that I've had a gauge overlay that another friend gave me several years ago. I love the way it looks but I'm not sure if it's something that I'd do again because I ended up breaking a needle when I tried to install it.

One of the most recent mods I did was to switch out my hazed headlights for new Fleabay ones and install Phillip HIDS that my brother gave to me. Visually I feel that it makes my car look newer.

In this photo you can see how hazy my old headlights were compared to the new ones.

I'm saving the old headlights for a side project I had in mind. I'll let you know if I went through with it.

Because the HIDs are so bright though, it makes my foglights look real dim so I'm thinking of switching out the bulb to yellow and putting some yellow overlays.

You had an escort too huh? I ended up swapping a ZX2 engine into mine and I gave many civics and tegs a run for their money because they weren't expecting a dohc in a 97.

ha ha very nice. I had a two door 94, was my first car so it was my "learning experience." Had a lot of fun with it though.

I need people's honest opinion. Right now I'm debating if I want to go with header, nitrous and a FMU or go turbo.

For nitrous I'd need the header, nitrous lines, nozzles, switches and solenoids.

For the turbo I'd need to get a turbo manifold made, oil fittings, hoses, and oil pan tapped.

I have the rest of the parts to go with either system. Nitrous just seems cheaper for now especially since my fiancee and I are planning a wedding, and trying to save up for a house. Comments, suggestions and honest opinions will be appreciated.

Im just messin with ya I say nos for now it cheaper and u have some fun then when ur ready then go turbo

It's came a long way bud, keep up the great work and i say go turbo its worth paying the extra money for the turbo and getting more satisfaction out of it then the nos.

Honestly if this is your DD id say go cams and a header and a full cold air if you dont have one already. youll have a ******* blast with the car. it wont be balls to the wall but it will be reliable and still fun as hell. just my two cents. Ive never had nitrous in any of my cars and i still do not plan on doing so, something about a bottle of explosive gas rolling around my car is uneasy for me. :p

Thanks for the comments guys!

As of right now it's my only car so I do try and take care of it. I'm planning on intake, header, and a stand alone for now to see what that will get me. I think I'm leaning towards a car I can really enjoy driving in the twisties. I figured if I can get between 130hp and 150hp I'll be happy... at least for a while. Once I feel I need more I'll go on the bottle for S&Gs. If the engine starts losing compression then i'll consider swapping in a 2.0. Hell I might even consider a KLZE swap. For now I need to go slow since my fiancee and I are planning a wedding, a honeymoon, and looking for some land.

Keep the comments/suggestions coming guys! They're always appreciated.

See mang thats perfect. i say you have your build right on track. best wishes to you and your fiancee. :)

i have a 02 protege es, and when the car had intake, header, cams, exhaust, limited slip, light weight flywheel xedy clutch, and suspension. it was super fun and super reliable. speedy pro can confirm that. im not sure what the 1.6l is like but my 2.0l got beat on the highways by a civic with vtec and some bolt ons all day. but my car looked better and was fun on the back roads.

now my pro is turboed and i drive a civic on the daily, so my advice is buy a honda then boost the s*** out of your pro.

Haven't been able to do much because of the wedding planning but I finally got around to installing the Simota Intake I picked up from a forum member. I must say I definitely got a little more oomph on the higher end. It didn't feel like the engine was running out of breath.

I also picked up two different sets of headers. One is an OBX 4 into 1 that will help out the top end and the other is a JDM Mazdaspeed 1.5L 4-2-1 header that will help out the mid range. I think I'm going to install the 4-2-1 so I can get better acceleration and mid range.
