Rear Shock Doesn't Fully Compress

2006 Mazda5 Auto with 56k miles. Replaced rear shocks due to clunking noise when going over bumps. Installed KYB GR2s. Upon inspection of old factory shocks, I discovered that one the shocks does not fully compress down. See picture. The shock on the left is at full compressed. The right shock compresses about 2 inch short of the left one.

I just bought 2 rear GR2 shocks for rear end clunking noise. These shocks seem easily compressible. Is this normal?
