Need help with Pro5

my brother is a engiener who gave me this not running 5 speed protege5 for free(some free car I,ve put 5,400 into it now-- its a junky car with 120,000k on it. now with 169,000k on it i have even more problems with it plus the 900$ timming belt that is oringinal and if it breaks it destroys the engine. this is my first and last mazda!!!!

so what exactly do you need help with?
and how did you figure the timing belt is 900 dollars? thats way off and if it snaps your engine wont get destroyed since its a non interference motor

lol, why dont you just replace the original timing belt, or maybe part the car out? and for 5400 you coulda bought a good condition used p5....

That's not too far off depending on what else he was getting replaced. My mechanic quoted me $830 for belt, gaskets, water pump, idler roller, tensioner roller, etc.

x2 on the non-interference engine. I'm still on my og belt at 128k.
