And my make-shift trunk prop, made out of 1 of the trunk hinge springs that I pulled out of the car. So yes, I took something meant to hold the trunk up... and used it... to hold the trunk up 0.o

man look at all the spare garage room

lol I know right? There'll be even more once I actually clean up. It's been a bit of a whirlwind down there the last week or so, so I've got tools strewn all over the place lol

looking good andrew, you racing this wknd? ?, why is the bar so high?

So that my head isn't holding up the weight of the car in the event of an accident? Harnesses keep you upright (unlike a 3 point belt) in the event of an accident.

sure, just haven't seen a bar that high before...

had to explain that to my brother last night...in case of a roll over there is enough space between your head and the imaginary line that runs from the top of the bar to the tip of the top of the hood

And honestly, I'm not the kind of person that like to cut that sort of thing close if I can avoid it lol

EDIT: And per the SCCA club race rules, it's actually from the top of the roll bar to the top of the front-hoop, which is obviously going to be an even steeper angle to make it over a helmet.

...front hoop? what do they consider the front hoop?

Well, I don't have one right now, but they consider the, er... front hoop... to be the front hoop :p

Right now, I've got a main hoop, a horizontal brace, a diagonal brace, and the 2 required rear braces for the main hoop. The rest of the "requirements" to go the rest of the way forward with the cage would be the front hoop, door bars, and the forward brace between the top of the main hoop and the top of the front hoop.

oh wow i didnt realize they required all that stuff

For an open top car cage to meet the club racing general competition rules, yeah. It's pretty thorough, but I'm ok with that. That's just the stuff for open top cars. Closed top cars / cars with windshields have a few more regs yet lol

I've been lurking here for a while. This looks like it'll be insane when it's done.

How does that Kirkey seat feel? Is it like a roller coaster seat? I've got a Miata that isn't my daily, but I was doubting using an aluminum seat for street use.

I know people that can drive all day in them. I, however, am not one of those folks. I can do a couple hours in 'em, tops. They're not very comfortable to me in the long haul. But as far as for a race car goes? They're excellent. Very supportive :)

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like I'll have to check them out for myself. I don't plan on taking my Miata cross country, so it might be a viable option.

Boom! Holy s*** balls, this thing is fun as hell! And compared to our competition, the car picked up about 2.5 seconds on a 45-second course. The car is SO much fun! Huge grip, goes a lot better than it did (it's going to be INSANE with 50 whp more...), stops better, turns better... And we're just scratching the surface of what this thing'll do. MAN that was fun (rockon)

Couple pics from grid, I'll have pictures from the event later on;

Rawr :D
