car will not start...new starter?

replace the negative cable clip but also remove 1 of the battery wires once the car is on and running and if it automatically shuts off,u have a bad alternator cuz it means that its not charging your battery how it should..

^No! The ECU draws directly from the battery bus and and any spike like that is bad for the ECU.

Get a multimeter and measure voltage out put before and after starting.

ok...so not gonna try running on 1 cable.

as mentioned earlier today, I dont really need the car all that much but I have to wait til wednesday to replace the new clip for the negative cable.

hopefully that does the trick.

Jump the car and take it upto autozone... where they can test the battery and the alt... if both are good replace the cable not just the connection(more then likely the cable has corrsion in it as well). You might be able to get by with just the ends for awhile but no telling really how long.... The cables are cheap for universal ones.
