so the first time this happened my temp gauge was dangerously high. so i went and changed the thermostat and it took care of it. now my anti freeze reserve was boiling.....but the temp was at normal. does it mean the head gasket is blown or the header is warped or what??? i need this fixed right away i cant afford not to have a car

The cooling system is pressurized, so if the cap is bad the boiling point of the coolant will be much lower because the system is no longer under pressure. The cap is also designed to relieve pressure (to a point) to keep hoses etc from bursting, but it's a balance.
