Any idea what this could be off the bat? We've had the car since May 2009.

Go to your dealer as soon as possible. This is not an emergency, but your still under warranty, don't mess with it 
Ensure your Gas Cap is tight...take it off and put it back on...then check. If the battery went dead I have seen that engine light stay on at times indicating a past low battery condition. JMO
