What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

It happen less then half a block from my house. Off Central Ave. Yeah, I'll make sure to take as much off the stuff as I can.

So I just checked out KBB for the value of my car, in very good condition it's...... (drum roll please)...... $6800 :( I think it's nearing that much in damage. They still need to pick her up and sender to the collision center. Here's another pic of the entire front...

Both fenders, are bent, the beam that's connected to the frame is bent, power-steering reservoir is crushed, bumper is gone, not sure about the wheel well, the main belt is loose, so not sure if something got shoved in there, radiator is gone (leaked all coolant fluid), headlight is toast, not sure about the other one, might have broken tabs. I think it might be nearing the value of my car :(. I still hope it can repaired.

Take off all aftermarket accessories and install bold tires and start shopping. I'd say you are easily looking at $7k-8k damages here.
I had a 2012 that got written off with less damages then this.

I agree with Vasy, Rallyman! Better get a jump on removing your goodies. I hate to tell you also but your MZ5 is definitely totaled. When a lady swerved into me a while back on a surface street on my white 2006 I got rid off. It was literally, a front bumper, wheel, mirror, wheel liner, and rear quarter small dent repair. The entire repair ran about $3800. You have way more damage then I did. I was able to drive my to and from work for a couple of days until I got the okay to drop it off at the collision center. Sorry to hear it and sorry to tell you man.

Installed a Kinivo BTC450 kit in the 5, works perfectly with my Pioneer HU! Thanks to the guy who posted about it three pages back, i bought one for me and one for the wifes new 2010 CRV.

So my insurance company has told me my car is a total loss :( I pretty much knew it. Didn't even get a chance to do it's maiden road trip we where going to take to Lake Tahoe late in the year. What a sucky week (car wise) :( :( :(

Sorry about your loss, at least cars can and will be replaced, gonna look for a newer 5?
I hope you removed the roof rack and window vent covers and the rest.... put them up for sale here.

Its always when you get them just the way you want that they get taken from you, i feel your pain man. That being said dont give up on finding another good 5 out there with your name on it. Even if it takes a few years (and cars) to find the right one, the second time (get it wink wink) can be even sweeter than the first

Well I'm not sure I'll get another 5. But I do believe I'll stick around in the Mazda family. You won't get rid of me that easily! :D

Sorry for you lose but cars can be replaced people can't. Glad your wife is ok. I would be interested in buying any roof racks and or windows vents you are able to remove if interested. I just purchased a 2010 touring.

Sorry for the loss rallyman. When my civic was totalled my insurance let me take out all the aftermarket stuff that i put into it and the value what insurance was going to give me wasnt going to change all i did was put back the oem parts. Goodluck rallyman

I just read up on your mishap... Knowing how well my wife drives, everytime she takes out a car we share, it comes back damaged or missing a piece. One time she ate a 4 inch curb in a 2008 Yaris we had. Man that Toyota took it like a champ, alignment was off by like 1 or 2 degrees with no shaking at highway speeds, freakin amazing.

Anyway, what I would recommend is, getting a '15 in black, manual trans (of course), then smoke out your taillights and lower the vehicle, this will help with the "Frankenstein" look that everyone loathes so much, had I kept my '12 I would've done it eventually, even though lowering any vehicle here in NJ is almost always a bad idea. Shouldn't be so bad. By smoking the taillights they blend in more with the back and don't stand out as much, also, what would be awesome is, if possible, I don't know if the layout permits, add a dual exhaust, that would be bad ass.

Of course all this is a lot of time and money but, hey, I like to look at the bright side of all things, I like to think all things happen for a reason, whether we know what that reason is or not. The universe works in very mysterious ways. Now you get to work on another vehicle!!

BTW, this is why lowering a car in NJ is a bad idea:

After our late winter snow melted, this is what it left behind. It took the borough 2 weeks to fill these potholes in, in that time frame I'm sure lots of cars were damaged, this is just a smidgen of what you would see not only in my municipality but all over Jersey. The state has no money to fix anything. And if you're crazy enough to want to move here for some reason, think about this, the average property taxes on a 1 family home here is $9,000/year. That's 3 zeros, not 2. LOL (Sorry for getting off topic, I needed to vent).

Drove 2200 miles round trip to southern Utah to raft down the Green River. The Mazda5 was a gear and people hauler. Fully loaded it earned 30-32 mpg. The dirt roads leading to the put-in and pull-out got pretty rough. On the drive back, the 5 acquired a nasty thudding sound upon accelerating from a stop. A rumbling sound appeared during idle. It made it all the home earning great gas mileage, however. Took it in to the dealer first thing. I was definitely bummed that the 5 couldn't hang tough. As it turns out, some rocks and debris got wedged between the frame and the motor mounts and hitched a ride back to Oregon.

Just dropped $2277 on an AC system rebuild. $1300 in parts to replace the all the components and the o-rings because the compressor fragged itself and sent shards of metal into the rest of the system. Labor got cut down about $500 because they didn't have to pull the dash to get the evaporator core out- so if a shop tells you they have to do that, ask them to look again or go to another shop. I normally would have done all this myself, except the timeline for road trips on the 5 is getting really short, and I don't do AC purge/refills.

On the plus side, I have a complete replacement compressor clutch with pulley and proper power pigtail going to the coil to match the 5 if anyone wants it. Installed but pulled after only two days before it went into the shop.

Today- will go for the Mazdaspeed brake upgrade with new brake hardware at all 4 corners. Pics later, hopefully.

On the bright side, at least the compressor clutch held? Damn thats pretty dear for AC work, I would have to think long and hard about getting rid of the car for that kind of money. To be fair mine was bought at the auction for 5k two and a half years ago so I'm in a different boat money wise. Mine will be going into the shop to have the front struts pulled, assembly checked, re-installed since I'm pretty sure that my improper assembly of them is why i can't stop the rattling. I believe that I didn't get the top nut on the strut tight enough before installing them, and now there is just enough wiggle room for them to rattle over every surface not smoother than glass. Like you Phunky i would do this myself, but the thought of another weekend spent beating on the front suspension causes my right eye to twitch LOL

The clutch held- I'll pull it now and sell it to whoever on here needs it. ;)

The time crunch is that my wife has to take it on a road trip tomorrow and the day after she gets back I'm going out of the country for a while. No time to screw around.

Your struts definitely sound like an assembly issue.
