Oil in Coolant overflow tank

hey guys

i just changed coolant in my car 2 weeks ago, and today i noticed a brown liquid in my overflow tank, i'm guessing its oil??? or is it something else?? and also what could cause it??? blown head gasket??? cracked head?? any help is welcome.. thnx guys

oil in overflow tank

a compression check would be a good place to start. we had a diesel van one time that had diesel fuel in the overflow for the coolant and it turned out to be a sealing ring for the injector. kinda bizzare, but must be close to the cooling circuits. anyway if indeed , you do have oil in your coolant jug thats a jumping off point.
