Why did you buy a MSP?

What made you buy and MSP out of all the cars out there?

My reason is uniqueness, not that many made and I love the car, I can depend on it to start and get me to where I need to go.

I just got my lisence and my dad asked me if i wanted a mazda protege and im like ugh... then he said something about mazdaspeed and how its 2.0 turbo and i thought sweet!, then when i saw the pictures i wanted it! lol didnt really know what a msp was and how rare it is until after i got it..

glad i got it :)

I had a P5 and loved it. the only thing I thought it was lacking was power.
" enter in the MSP " plus I loved the way it looked. I almost bought one brand new back in '03. I bought the P5 instead and was kicking myself ever since. So the first chance I got I traded it in for the MSP and never been happier.

I bought mine in July of 2005. My one buddy worked at a Chevy dealership and was trying to get me to buy a new Cobalt. I went to the dealership to check out what they had, I hated the Cobalt so I was looking in the used section. I was checking out a '03 Civic which was cheap and junk, and I saw the wing of the MSP further up the line. I was like, "what is that??". I checked it out and bought it two days later. I had never heard of the MSP at the time, I didn't know anything thing about it (how rare it is etc.) until I found this site.

in the market for a car after my years of saving...knew about the msp way back in 03..fell in love and had to buy one eventually. found a decent price and pretty good condition. had to take a train to pick it up lol.

it was all luck for me. i wrecked my 1998 nissan 200sx se. i needed a car fast since it was my daily. my dad goes to car auctions a couple times a week and happened to see a yellow mp3. i had no clue wtf it was and only understood that it was a protege so i was kind of turned off at first. then i googled it and thought it looked pretty ballin. he brought it home and i was like "HOLY s***, that is a sweet ass ride!" i especially loved the whole sound system it had, which was a hell of a lot better than my bad 200sx infinitys that were blown out and had to be replaced with some decent kickers and a jvc headunit...lol

so anyway, after owning the mp3 for oh say, 6 months i found out there was a turbo version and HAD to have it. after years of waiting for the right one, and going through a spec v in the mean time...i found my baby.

Because my wife's Isuzu Rodeo was falling apart and I love sport compacts. I was going to get a VW Jetta GLi but once I saw the MSP there was no turning back. I remember being out on the test drive and going around a bend kinda fast. I couldn't believe how hard the car sticks to the road!!!

Well for me i sold my Eclipse, and was looking around for a newer car. So i looked at some older STi's, newer WRX's, and BMW's for awhile. And then I saw the MazdaSpeed Protege sitting in a for/sale lot. Well test drove it and had fun :) And the STI I was looking at ATM was nice, but the guy was slow at getting back to me and i NEEDED a car. So i shoped around for MSPs for another week. I test drove a perfect condition Yellow MSP a guy had forsale online, and when we did the paperwork the price was not what it was on the internet, we called him out on it and wouldent budge the price..... So we just left him hahaha. But then we found another yellow one in NJ. AND WOW, The DEALER keep saying it was in perfect condition and ect. ect. But we drove a hour+ just to see it and hopefully buy it. But when the pulled the car around.... O....M....G.... IT WAS BEET, the mirror was taped on, the rims had Perfect curbrash, and everythign! and they wanted 12,000 for it still. We just left and the dealer lady came running out saying "whats wrong whats wrong" haha, dumbasses I swear.

But then we found another one in NJ, this one was black this time. So we drove out again (cause the lot also had a WRX and a Sepc-V and a BMW 325is) But I saw the MSP and test drove it. Wasnt bad, and the guy was nice. So we ended up getting it. Even though the headunit didnt work, there was no subs, and it had a fartcan on it (first thing i changed LOL, stock exhaust ATM) But the old owner also had aftermarket parts on it at one time (can tell from bolts missing and ect.) and replaced everything back to stock, and also had "shinny" tail lights LOL, that was my 2nd thing i changed :)

But overall I Love the MSP so far. And the one I found when I first got it wasnt perfect, but it still isnt. But its getting there. :D

To many beet MSP's when I was looking. Kinda sad.

Needed a family car but still wanted to have some fun when by myself. So found a all stock one for a decent price and could not pass it up. Always wanted one since they came out just never had the money till now.

The MSP I currently own, I actually first laid eyes on about 4 years ago... the owner was selling it for about 13,500, and was a regular in a bar i worked at at the time. We hung out a few times, and despite the 7 color halo fog lights behind the upper grill, altezza tails, and custom vinyl down the side, I fell in love with the car, but couldn't afford it.

Then last summer, (I hadn't talked to him in at least 2-3 years) he traded it on an Acura TL at a local Honda dealer (I found this out when I called him the evening after my test drive). I happened to be searching online, stumbled on it.. went to go look at it, it had the same gay taillights I remembered it having... test drove it (motor mounts were blown to s***), and put a deposit down. Someone came and offered them STICKER for it the next day... I got out the door with T,T, and L paid for 1500 under sticker... lol. Good timing is key!

As for exactly why.. its a good balance of what I wanted and needed.
Want: something quick, fun to drive, 5 speed, reasonably priced, preferably turbo
Need: reliable (comparitively speaking of course), practical to seat 4 occasionally, good mileage..

I didn't see any cars that fit my criteria any better.

Hated the rental car interior of the SRT4 plus the dodge dealers thought they were gods gift to cars and wouldnt let me test drive one without doing paperwork, F that its a 20k car. The mazda dealer gave me the keys on a couple of occasions. In the end the MSP was better looking and better all around to me......then, I saw the fresh blue ones they had sitting in the back lot still in their plastics. game over. lol

yeah, credit checks and bulls*** on an SRT-4 was rediculous. They wanted to read me the riot act when the fender liner flew out of the ACR I test drove... i was like... WTF am I supposed to do? I didn't reach in there and tear it out... I was on a freeway! lol

well for me when i was looking to get rid of my 1991 Escort GT, i had my heart set on a yellow MP3. i couldnt get financed for it in time and someone else got it. i looked at MSPs but at the time they were out of my price range. i ended up getting a 2000 Escort ZX2. i had big plans for the zx2. but 8 months later i found a titanium gray msp at a dealer locally. i saw it on a friday night at 1 in the morning when coming back from a concert. i went back that monday and it was in my driveway by friday. it was $7800 and i took a $3000 hit on the zx2 but i dont regret it one bit it was still under $10000 for a kick ass car.

i grew up in a small town full of grand prix gtp's, monte carlo ss's and mustang gt's that were bought by mommy and daddy and thought they were fast. i wanted sumthing no one else had and was hard to get their hands on. definatly needed a turbo and looks that would turn heads. the MSP was it. no one had heard of it until i came around the corner and they heard the "turkey" for the first time. ha couldn't be happier drivin this thing. i've smoked every car in my highschool parking lot and the old guys who think my car is "all looks." i'v even caught some classmates doing research on the MSP and looking for them on autotrader. had it since i wuz 17 and have driven it for 2 years now. unique always wins.

I really wanted a WRX but couldnt find one in my price range. I looked forever and couldnt find one i found my msp with 18000 miles for 8k back when there were none for less than 13000 dollars and i bought it with out even knowing about the LSD and the weak rods but im telling you right now i dont even regret it i love my msp.

My Subaru SVX wouldn't crawl over 35mph, and I needed a car. Dealership gave me $5000 for my trade and knocked $5000 off the top of the car. I took one look at it the night before all the paper work and the trade offers and fell in love the minute I saw it. Haven't looked back since, although I do miss my old car.

wow 7zimmer7 that story sounds about the same as mine. ive been out of highschool for a year now and my friend told me that ppl were talking about my car just yesterday. i love it.

Bought mine because I didn't know any better....LOL. Just kidding.
Ever since they came out I was intrigued. I like the rarity. Not many made, and look good right out the door. I'm a bit disappointed that Mazda took so many shortcuts with the motor however. But nonetheless, I'm happy. Its hard to find a boosted, good looking, fun to drive car for under $10k, in good shape; so when I found this one, I jumped all over it. Now if only I had the funds to support my mods addiction. LOL
