How much Transmission fluid is needed

You can always do a "drain & fill" twice within a few months. That should make the new fluid concentration fairly high, and you won't have to work about contaminants clogging anything.

That being said, I must also mention that the previous owner of our Protg had the transmission fluid flushed at 85,000 miles. We've had the car for 6 years now and 25,000 miles and the transmission is still perfect.

I dropped the pan and took the filter out of my 2003 Protege5 about an hour ago.It isn't a screen,it's a plastic case with foam inside it.
I replaced the one exactly like it that's been in the car since new

.Previously the car was flushed at 35000 miles and then drained and replaced about every 25k.It now has 126,000 miles on it.
Freaking unbelievable how much better the car runs now. I'll bet there was a pretty good reduction in pressure with that old filter in there.

It now has no lag. It's quieter and shifts much quicker and positively.
I bought it at Advance for 18$ after their 20% off discount for online orders.
So yeah...this car does have a filter.
