Loss of Power TSB

SOLD 2002 Protege5; Current 2008 CX-9 Grand Touring
There's a Cooling / Coolant related TSB that is out there and references the lack of power when climbing a hill. I wonder if the knocking that I had been describing in my other thread is related.

Has anyone gotten work done under that TSB? What did the dealer do?

I hope that this helps. I saw aniother listing of this TSB that showed a range of affected VINS and I can't find it now. My car is in the range. I don't believe that I have any power loss, but I do have knocking when just starting off and the engine tap tap tap when idling.

well my problem is when my cx-9 climbs a hill it doesnt shifts down if i dont push the pedal enough, but my old ml55 used to shift down no matter how i push the gas pedal, i drive my cx semi auto tho so i can shift up or down anytime i want and its more fun. Other then I gotta tell you guys I can hit 60 mph in 7.5 secs which is acceptable for a suv. the supercharged range rover can go up to 60 in 7.7 secs if im not mistaken. As i mentioned before I even tried to race a XJ8 with my cx-9 lol.

B. It's off topic and has nothing to do with the TSB the thread is about.

Those of us, myself included, with vehicles in the SN range listed are looking for more details about the TSB and what Mazda is recommending be done to address the problem some have experienced, not off topic commentary.

I can't seem to find the recommended resolution procedure for the TSB.

Does anyone have a relationship with a dealer who can find out? I'd like to know if the mild knocking that I get going up an incline and at initial throttle tip in is related. I can't tell if there is a loss of power, as I alway wished this truck could accelerate better.

Zoomfive could u drive your cx-9 in manual mode and see how long it takes to reach 60 mph? and then try the same thing in auto mode. Lemme know the numbers ur gettin, im going to stop by at dealer wednesday i got a bud working at the service so i can ask him whats really going on with your engine or transmission or wutever is the problem.
 
We don't have any hills in Houston, so I have no idea if such a powerloss does occur with our CX-9. :)

It sure sounds like the same issue.

Since it's a safety issue, sudden lose of power isn't a good thing, likely Mazda will end up issuing a voluntary recall on it once they have a plan in place to address it.

I don't think they'll leave this one as a fix on complaint basis because they have no way of knowing when a given vehicle might be driven in hilly conditions. They'll open themselves up to lawsuits if an accident were to occur caused by this sudden loss of power: They knew the condition existed but failed to issue a recall for all affected vehicles. It's far cheaper for them to simply do the recall and replace the component then risk the suits.

Will give it a shot during Yom Kippur when there are fewer cars on the highway / roads. That's on Wednesday. If I don;t get back to you in time, just tell your bud about the knocking on tip in and on inclines. Appreciate it. If you want to, see if he has any feedback on wurbling/slight shimmy when braking moderately to a stop from 45 on a downhill/offramp.
 
Aight bud I ll talk to him and let you know, i m also gonna record a 0-60 mph clip for you so you can compare your cx-9 with mine, cus my cx-9 has no problems as far as i know.
