Life left in brakes?

I've got 89,000km on my Protege and the front brake pads are down to about 5mm and the rear to about 4mm... from what I understand, this is getting close to needing a change, but maybe not quite yet.

Problem is, I don't know how thick pads are when they are new, so I'm not able to make a good guess at roughly how many km I can go before they need changing based on how much of the pad I've used to go 89,000km

Can anyone give me an estimate?

they are stock pads and have 55,000 miles

I'd say another 5k miles or so, but keep an eye on them you don't want them to get too low and start grinding the rotors up and you won't be able to resurface them.

I wore my brakes down to their backing plate right at about 52,000 miles. If you let them go too far, you'll also have to add a set of rotors to your shopping list.

New pads are how thick?

So, I'm just wondering, when you buy new brake pads and brake shoes how thick are they???
