HELP: HOW To change Power Steering Fluid?

Hey Mazda Community,

My fluids are looking pretty dark. How do I flush / change the power steering fluid? The ghetto way that I can think of, is to get something equivalent of a super-sized eye dropper, and suck out some of the old gunk, then add in new, and repeat until the color is what it should be like.

Have any of you flushed, or changed your power steering fluid yet? If so, would you please share your experiences?

i've never heard of a car needing a power fluid flush, usually a simple top off is good

if it is looking that dark, maybe you should check for another problem

a) suck out all the fluid from the system using a pump
b) remove belt and disconnect pressure hose and turn pump by hand to pump out old fluid... then put everything back on and refill system

I took mine to a place that does a flush similar to auto tranny flush replacing with synthetic fluid. Wasn't cheap but hey, your car knows when you care.

i was actually just at that site... did it make a big difference? With the synthetic Power steering / tranny, will it last much longer?

bump, any other mspers have to change their power steering fluid? im at 48k
