Very nice. I would look into adding a WD Raptor (10,000RPM hard drive) to load your OS and applications (use the 320gb for data)

Why the FireGL? Just curious.

Edit: nevermind. I read the maps part....LOL

oh my gawd... my single core isn't even a 3.0 LOL... but my HDD is still bigger (enguard)

although it is not a sata...

Here, It's Called DTED

Mt%20Fuji%20DTED.jpg

Digital
Terrain
Elevation
Data

It's a Raster File with elevation values that can be draped with a map to provide a 3D perspective view. In real time, these files can be over a terabyte in size. Even taking a Resample of a file to use in a simulation can be over 40 GB in size.

Makes for "Video Game Like Simulations" for Pilots and Soldiers.

the hell do you do for a living to afford this stuff.

*edit.. didn't know there was much money to be made with mapmaking.

what exactly is your job? gis technician type person?

I am a member of the Canadian Forces. Joined in 1990.
I spent most of that as a Tank Driver/Gunner then Commander.

I recently transferred to a military trade called GEO-TECH.

A Trade that combines most GIS jobs in one.

Survey
Reproduction
Photogrammetry
Digitized Raster Products
3d Terrain Analysis
Specialized map products
Multi Spectral (Multi Band) imagery
3D Terrain Simulation

Basically anything that uses

Arc-GIS and Erdas

DTED 1M Res
Applanix 10cm Resolution

The geek is strong in that one. Hell I would love to build a computer like that but I don't have enough money. Good luck and congratulations.

Those last shots look great, are they your work? Good job if so!
No, they are off of their website.

The Pink one is a multi spectral composite.

The basic idea is your eye is fairly limited to the visible band.

If you take a picture in Thermal and project it into the red gun, you can use a larger spectrum to identify minor differences in the signatures of things.

A good EG.

Cops use Near Infa Red scans to identify Weed Plants in corn fields. Your eye can't see the difference because they all look green, but in Near Infa Red, they look quite different.

Brian that is a cool super computer! I must say after reading all your threads about your car projects and car pics, house upgrades etc and now new computer I would suggest a blog. Rather than have to post all these threadS on all the car forums you frequent and have to check back on all the thread to see what people have said it would be so much more effiecient to have it on one site. That way you only have to post it in one place and only have to check one place and not to mention it will allow even more people from around the world to see what is going on in your life and post just how cool it is, oh and of course you can make new friends. All you have to do is post the link in your sig so that people who care can visit your blog to see your updates.
Anyways, just my 2 cents(yupnope)

fun new computer :)

I hope that 320GB is 2x320GB in a RAID1 though :)

Umm, we don't use CD-Rom to import, we use 100 Gb Firelite External drives.

I have 4 of them..
