moderation?

2003.5 Black Protege5
I spend most of my time in the for sale section so i will concentrate on that

while i realize mods are not paid and they do have lives it doesnt seem like things are being moderated very well. I have seen numerous threads "slip" by or just never closed even though they break the forum rules

I think maybe the FS section needs another mod that can devote time to keeping the section clean

Here are a few recent threads that should have been dealt with:

The list goes on, these are just the ones from the past few days that i found in 5 minutes:(

There are some mods that do a decent job but I've seen several that I have no clue how they became mods. Like you said they are not paid and it's just a forum but geez if you're gunna be a mod do your dang job!

It doesnt take any special skills to become a mod, you have to be active it the forum and know a little about how to use the mod features. I was a mod in a DVD forum a while back and I didn't know a damn thing, I was just active and willing to volunteer my time and learn.

I guess they are all too busy to respond here or to take care of the threads I mentioned in my first and second post:(

Was bored so I found a few more today. This thread has been up three days and no admin's or mod's have even bother to post here to even tell me to **** off and most of the threads I have mentioned are still open:(

Ridiculous, four days and still nothing done about 99% of these threads.

I even did the work for you by finding all of these, all you have to do is open them and either move or close them, but you are still too lazy to that.

Way to go mods and admins (first)

Best way to let us know about bad posts or spam is to use the "report bad post" button. It will send an email to the moderator(s) of whatever section the post is in, as well as all of the admins.

Took the words right out of our mouth.

Sorry, Norotor, it's a bit ridiculous to think we can look over every last post on a forum of 25K+ users. As for "not giving a crap" and "not being active", that couldn't be further from the truth. Any admin will tell you, I do more than my share for sure.

Besides that, jobs like closing and moving threads should be taken care of by the section moderators, so blaming the "higher ups" is kind of pointless. You wouldn't blame the CEO of Blockbuster for the tardyness of an employee at one of the stores, would you?

I've noticed that many mods around here become mods for the "status", and end up not doing jack, which makes it harder on admins like me, who not only have bigger jobs to keep up on, but now we have to pick up their slack. In the examples you listed, it seems like the problem is with our For Sale mods. Again, that's not due to myself, Kat, or JerseyEMT not doing our jobs. We probably have to have Enry and Antoine assign a new mod or two there.

I can't stress it enough: the "report bad post" button is the best way to help us help you.

I've been pretty active, but not as much as during the school year. Things have been rather busy in my personal life.

That said, I do try to close threads that have been reported using the report post function. Raidermp5, NoRotor, and others have used it and it's very helpful.

I also typically hit the forum index and look at stuff that way. I suppose I should also check the FS subforum itself.

It's great to see normal people posting reminders of the rules so people know it's coming. Hell the "ib4tl" thing is hilarious.

RaiderMP5 is the KING of reporting bad posts. I probably take care of 3 of his bad post reports per day.

FWIW, while Zath hasn't been AS active lately, I do recall getting PMs from him every hour on the hour in the past asking me to move threads that he didn't have access to move.

wat is that "ib4tl" s*** anyway?

"in before the lock".

ie, the users know that the thread is breaking the rules and is going to be locked, so to be cute, they post that as an "i was here and i'm betting it's going to be locked"
