Rear Trailing Link Question

I was Autocrossing last weekend when the white plastic coupling at the rear of the trailing link snapped off... Im no mechanic but it dosent apear to be a functional peice at all... is it just to protect that joint? Should I be concerned?

I woudn't worry about it. Mine broke for no reason a couple years ago. I had the car at the dealer for something and and mentioned it. They replaced the whole link assembly because they couldn't get just the plastic cover. The service guy said that not having isn't anything to worry about.

probably just water protection or maybe protection against s*** from the road?
