Hi

I need to change the oil for my manual tranny on my Protege5.
Where is the plug for this underneath and on top? I looked thru the manual and cant find anything.

Many thanks

M.

Make sure you get a oil pump type thing, it is very difficult to pour the MT fluid in from the side.

You can get them for relativly cheap at an auto parts store.

a fluid transfer pump is definitely the way to go but it's also possible to do it with a funnel with a flexible tube attached to the bottom.

If you still have the stock airbox, you'll have to remove it to access the fill plug for the tranny. It's a little awkward to get to but you can feel for it from the top of the engine (it's on the bumper side of the tranny a little below horizontal, which is why you need a pump or flexible tube to fill it).

Both the fill plug and the drain plug are 23mm and they are the only two bolts that size (pretty big if you ask me) on the transmission. Personally I couldn't find a 23mm socket locally to save my life and found that if you use a 6-point 15/16, you'll be fine (it's a difference 3/100 of an inch).

Hope this helps
