Just got through installing a Wheelskins leather steering wheel cover on my gf's '99. As you can see from the pics, the gray is a match for her interior (exterior is Classic Red, hence the red). Install was fairly easy, just a little time consuming. Quality is great, and it addressed her complaint that her wheel wasn't thick enough (as compared to my stock '03 ES wheel). I can highly recommend this for anyone who is looking for a fairly cheap upgrade. I got this one from eBay, there are many color choices (both single and two-tone) available as well as perforated leather. I am going to get her a leather shift boot next, once she decides what color she wants.

no offense but that does look pretty cheap. Like it was meant to be there just dosnt fit. I would of just gotten a wheel cover from a local auto parts store. they look fine and they do serve a purpose.

You are entitled to your opinion. My only reason for starting this thread was to show how this looked installed in case someone wanted to buy one, not to solicit input on if it should have been done. I am curious though, how does something that is leather and stitched tightly around the wheel not serve a purpose? The ones you get at your local Pep Boys etc are vinyl and/or cloth and just slip on. Their only purpose is to isolate you from control of your vehicle.

nono yours deff. serves a better purpose then the slip ons, just i think that the slip-on's dont try and make it look stock. like the wheelskins looks like your trying to make it a oem look or aftermarket. but i feel it dosnt do that. i dont mean to start a fight or get u upset but its just not a good looking mod in my view. If you can, save up to switch the wheel out with a 01+ style wheel. It is a two-tone wheel, nice shape, and thick.

Thanks a lot chiefmg. I am someone who is thinking about purchasing one of those because right now I am getting quotes like 250US for re upholstering my steering wheel in black and red. This will definitely be a much cheaper solution.

MikeyClutch, I understand what you are saying. I am too old to take offense at anything said on any forum, life is too short as it is! The newer style wheels are definitely better, but you also have to buy the air bag for it (different style) and I am not sure but what you wouldn't have to also get the air bag computer as well. Then you are into some serious money.

SNike05, just so you know the two tone Wheelskins are only available in the style I have. You can pick whatever colors you want from their choices, but it will always be top/bottom same color and sides same color. If that is what you are looking for then go for it! Just do a search on eBay for Wheelskins, there are several places that offer them. The one I got mine from (autoupgrade) will send you color swatches for free if you want to check on the match with your car.

Actually it looks pretty damn good. Some folk on here are too young to remember when factory leather wrapped steering wheels looked just like that.

Damn kids! (poke)

Out of all the similar products out there, I think for what it is this is the best. Price, quality, you name it. It has made my gf happy, I figure that is the acid test! (thumb)

I had a solid brown leather one on my Ford Escort. It was nice and it accented my interior rather well. I might try one on my car maybe fidget with the stitching a little make it a bit different. Looks good for a cheaper alternative.

I think they might have changed that. If you go to their website you can put the red on the sides and grey on top and bottom. I'm still debating on what to do.

Yes, you can choose which colors you want top/bottom/sides. I just wanted to make sure you knew that the top and bottom would be one color, and the sides would be another. Guess I didn't do a good enough job explaining myself.

cool, i think you gotta be crazy to want 4 different colours.

I put a full black one over the leather on my Mazda truck because it was getting a bit worn and it felt great!

I have a Wheelskins cover in my 626 and I love it, too. Instead of using the black lacing thread that came with it I found some in blue that matches my paint and also the interior, including the blue stitching on my shift boot and ebrake boot. Feels much better than the plasticy steering wheel.

Here's a pic:

BTW, the cover starts to look better over time as the leather settles. The ruffles and stuff will go away.
