During Luke's (RoguePro5) engine swap this evening, we were buttoning everything together and I went to connect the last few connectors. Among those was the crank position sensor connector.

However, the connector was different than the one installed on his original engine. The donor engine was removed from a 2002 sedan of some breed. Lukes P5 is also a 2002. Does anyone have any idea as to why the connector is different? Is there anything different about the CPS? Everything else connected correctly. The donor engine was mated to an automatic transmisson (while the oil pans are different, everything internally is the same) if that makes any difference.

Suggestions?

You said "same breed". Do you mean it is an FS-DE made for the Protege? Or is it the Ford Probe engine? IIRC, the Probe engines do not use the crank sensor that the Protege engines use on the engine's crank pulley.

it was a FS-DE out of a Mazda. Had the exact same valve cover.

It's running great! But the CEL came on within 10 miles....wonder what it could be.

I stated "sOme breed" as in either an LX, DX, or ES. All 2002 Proteges were supplied with an FS-DE. Since the Probe wasn't produded in 2002, it couldn't be from that ;).

Any other suggestions? Bueller?
