In an effort to learn more about new Mazda5 owners, I created a little quiz. Please answer only if you have bought a Mazda5:
1. Which model / color / transmission / options / etc. did you get?
Touring, automatic (because of my wife! argh!), Sirius radio option, in carbon gray.
2. Whereabouts are you located?
Near Washington, DC
3. Is this your first Mazda?
This is my third mazda. The last two were Proteges.
4. What other vehicles were you considering, and what would you have bought if the Mazda5 didn't exist?
Subaru Forester, Hyundai Santa Fe, Honda CRV.
5. What were the main three reasons why you chose the Mazda5?
1) Our first child just arrived, and I was finding it hard to get in and out of the Protege with the car seat. Plus, with the stroller in the trunk, there was no room for groceries, etc. And, really, with the car seat in the middle of the backseat, it was uncomfortable for additional passengers to sit in the back.
2) Forester really disappointed me. Not that much more space. More HP, but disappointing performance. Honda CRV was really nice, but it didn't seem as functional as the Mazda5. Didn't even make it to the Hyundai lot after I drove the 5!
3) I have been loyal to Mazda because their cars are fun to drive, and treat many "options" as standard equipment.
6. If you could change three things about the Mazda5 and/or the options avaliable for it, what would they be?
1) Give it a bit more power. Loses some zip when full or on mountains.
2) Add all wheel drive.
3) Give us that 7th seat that the Europeans and Asians get.
4) Give it a real horn. The current horn is weak!
7. Do you plan to make any modifications?
No.
8. Have you seen any other Mazda5s on the road yet?
Surprisingly, no!
9. What kind of reactions have you received from others on your new Mazda5?
Neighbor called it a "hot rod." I smiled. Father in law called it a minivan. I frowned.
10. So, is the Mazda5 a MAV, a minivan, a space wagon, a microvan, crossover, toaster oven or what?
I *really* want to believe I didn't just buy a minivan... and the argument can be made that it isn't one, but most lay people in America probably see it and think "that's a very cool looking minivan."
11. What question did I forget to ask?
